  1. I'm showing my willful ignorance a bit. As you said yourself, you don't use the "rules;" what's the point in learning them? Of course, knowing more is always better, but that's also to say you're never "done" with any concept. I dunno. I just... I get frustrated because I feel a lot of people read and write more than they listen. And that's an unfair statement, for sure, because I don't know anyone from Adam; but still....
  2. Something actually relevant to composing? In other words, who the fux cares about species counterpoint?

Quite seriously, what's happening with the "file not found" bug. Every piece I got back to listen to of other peoples, seems to be missing.. it's getting beyond ridiculous. Are we going to be able to hear these pieces again without asking the person each time to re-upload?
  4. and if you wait...you will learn it in my course. haha!
  5. Flute and tuba are actually two of the most hardest instruments to play, along with piccolo. They are require an insane amount of air. It is not hard to start playing either of these instruments but it is very hard to master the airflow and such.
  6. In what ways isn't it relevant? If you've moved through the expanded species, as well as third species, you should be writing smaller values, and of unequal durations. Then, variations on species are variations on melody or rhythm. Counterpoint does not have to sound like a fugue, and I still think the technique is a must. As far as the rules are concerned, I don't use them :P Though understanding beat subdivisions helps writing multiple melodies/rhythms (for me).
