  1. I am happy and grateful that YC considers me a "composer of the year 2012". It is an honor. :) I will definitely stay on this site in 2013 as a composer, reviewer and occasional judge. It's unlikely I will participate in monthly competitions as a competitor since the rules usually don't attract me. I also hope there will be more reviews from different people as this site was supposed to be. Recently only a few members of this site frequently review other member's compositions. I don't know what you all think but I also believe this site is not meant to upload (piano) improvisations (unless a directory for improvisation uploads is created) or upload pieces of wrong genre in wrong directory. For example: if somebody composed a pop piece and used full orchestra, (s)he should have uploaded it in pop directory anyway. Is anybody here addressed to move wrong uploads to right directory? I would especially like to thank Austenite, JCramer and Sarastro to be my devoted followers and reviewers. And I congratulate Austenite for his success in 2012. As I have already said, he had really hit a jackpot.

  2. I'm still stunned. But let me make a try... *shows up late, runs through the red carpet, is greeted by a mocking Billy Crystal and a thrilled Anne Hathaway, while Christian Bale shows up pushing a cart full of statuettes* Acceptance Speech Follows :facepalm: : This comes as a major surprise for me, as there were so many quality compositions on the run :blush: . I can barely find any words :happytears:, except for a really big and heartily Thank You to the whole YC community, especially for those whose support showed up through the vote. I must also congratulate the other winners, esp. Sojar Voglar, who justly carried the coveted award for YC's Best Composer, as well as the (very fitting) Old Timer's Award and the Most Underrated Piece (I should add that his music as a whole is still underrated in this site). I also celebrate that our Rookie of the Year is very deservedly going to Sarastro, a very helpful and knowledgeable musician who has made a significant contribution despite having been a member for such a short time. And I must note the breakout year for CJplumblossom, who got not only the Weirdest Ensemble award but also the Most Improved Composer in 2012 (hey, you're also Staff's Pet :toothygrin:!) HeckelphoneNYC will surely go bananas about finally carrying an award - Most Reasonable Member, nothing less! (BTW, the fact that one of our youngest members is also deemed as the most reasonable should tell us something about the average maturity level of YC :pinch: ). And Jaap Cramer just can't stop winning, this time getting the Most Skilled Debater. I'd like also to congratulate Tokkemon for being outspoken in his political views ;) no matter if they are shared or not by the rest of us. On the less bright side, it's a pity that we're losing our just-named Best Moderator, as Morivou has announced his intention to leave YC :( - as did Elizabeth, last year's winner and hands-down our Most Missed Member. And also that Wayne-Scales has managed to retain his Most Disliked Staff Member title, despite a stiff challenge from the actively campaigning Ananth :P . But 2012 has been also the year of the Triple Crown for Composer Phil (aka Ravel's law): Most Annoying, Least Missed and Staff Nightmare awards (although I wonder if he could have pulled out the feat if Dominus Vobiscum hadn't dropped out from the race :evil: ). Nevertheless, I have little less to add. Congrats to everyone else - and a million thanks! *waves one statuette, hugs and kisses Anne Hathaway again until pushed back by Adam Shulman, winks at Jennifer Lawrence, bows out*

  3. I personally would like Austenite to make a strong goodbye wave to the Tchaikovsky's shadow in his music and find more personal language, even if his approach remains in major-minor tonality system. The first movement of Serenade shows promise, for example. He is an excellent orchestrator and his form is standing solid. Well, at least I got myself an "old fart" reward. :)

  4. Austenite deserved it. He's a great composer and a real contributor to YC. Well done champ!

  5. Mine is to pay more attention to the form of my pieces and hopefully be able to compose longer and more developed pieces.

  6. All good and bad things in life must change. Everything I do contributes to moving on. I'm ready to move on now. Eight years ago, I joined this site with the intention of really contributing as a member. I wanted people to recognize me for my abilities, and I wanted to interact with others to maybe help their paths progress. The time now, as I turn 21 this year, has come for my time here at this site to end. I've been a member, a student, a teacher, a reviewer, and finally a moderator. I've done pretty much everything one could do on this site. It helped me get a full scholarship to college (to the number 2 music university in the country) and I cannot thank you all enough. But, I have also learned that my life is fleeting, and I've recently come to terms with my mortality. I see my accomplishments here, and I recognize it as a viable and important part of my journey I will share with my family in 50-60 years, looking back on my adolescence. I don't want to be sappy, but I've gotten through hard times here, good times, bragged on myself and others... and you all have been as a family. Even families, though, must fade. (I think I've been watching too much anime... look at my cheesy language. :P) So, with the conclusion of this monthly competition, and this YC awards, I will be leaving the site and stepping down from my staff position. I wouldn't leave, of course, without naming a successor to the title of Monthly Competition Moderator. It is, of course, Austenite. Though, if Austenite refuses the position, you all will have to find a suitable replacement, lest the monthly comps disappear into the void. :P Thank you all very much for your time and support over the years. Time to start a new chapter! -Connor Lidell.

  9. hahah. It's ok. It's possible that being the best mod really takes a toll on your sanity... which it really, really does. :P

  11. Congratulations to everybody, especially Austenite! I hope the sweeping recognition given will spur him on to become even better composer and contributor. As per the unlucky nominations, I must say the selection of music was really amazing; I enjoyed listening to the pieces, some of which I already knew and some totally new to me, and I had the greatest tribulation picking my votes; indeed, any two pieces could have been voted at random for almost every category, which I admit I did a couple of times ;-)

  12. Congrats to everyone! Austenite... woah dude... you sweeped this year! :D Nice! And, thanks to everyone who voted for my Wind and (other pieces submitted) and of course, for best mod. :D It has been a pleasure serving you guys this year. Sorry to be leaving. ;-;

  13. As I have checked these works, I think Austenite's Serenade should be selected, unless it's too difficult for the orchestra. ;) Some of the works should not have been sent, they are not yet even on basic level of quality, though.
