  1. First thing you'll note about this... this is NOT the 8-bit-Evolution challenge. We figured we'd let that one settle for a while. Instead, this will be a general video game orchestration competition for a game that already exists: Chrono Trigger. We thought it'd be good to branch out with our competitions a little bit and are excited to see the results of this! Here is the link to the intro cutscene entrants will be scoring for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOmgIZZuI68 Purpose and Expectations: 1. Write a score that accompanies the visuals in this intro. It should try to invoke the same sort of adventurous feeling as the original score. /10 2. Synching is not easy. I'll accept some issues with synching, but in general the music should match the scene. /10 3. Does it sound like this could be played in real life? In other words, does the orchestration seem feasible? /10 4. All entries will be played for a person who has not played the game before and also has little formal music education. Did you get them excited to play the game? /10 TOTAL: /40 Note: Sound effects in the original cutscene will not be taken into account. Entrants will signal their intent to enter by responding to the comment thread on this topic. Provided this gains enough attention, I'll open another topic for entrants to post their entries. Entrant: 1. SallyTheSeabird 2. LostSamurai 3. Between Skies 4. fishfry 5. Mark Paul Entrants can now sign up whenever they'd like before the due date. Due Date for Final Entry: TENTATIVE (12/20) Good luck!

  4. hi, i'm new here. let me introduce myself. i'm Jozef , 21 years old. i live in indonesia. i'm a video game composer, freelancing, and work as a soundtracker (mainly). it's really rare here in my country to see a type of composer like me. and well. i already read few topics here and seems like it will suit for me. i started composing since 16 years old, i play games a lot, it's like i'm hunting a video game music, even if i don't interested in the game. i still play them to listen to the music. here is one of my composition.i just started a new channel in youtube. (i already have an account that contains me playing piano). i appreciate critics and comments ! Happy halloween guys ! (it's already 1november, though) i'm not easily feel offended. so feel free to criticize me and my works! have a good day!

  5. Repeated time is borderline on this part. It devolves from being motivic to being almost banal. But I think you cut it off around that point... Crossed voices seems to be a problem for you especially as you get into the middle section. Try to keep each voice clear so the melody is the first thing that comes out. I didn't really feel myself traveling very much with this one. It seems pretty segmented and planned, which is the opposite of exploration, at least to me. I'm curious to see how this unfolds.

  7. 1. Polyrhythms were enjoyable. Maybe not a single many chords were necessary, and I felt the ending was tagged on and awkwardly abrupt. 2. We know what's happening as the performer, but the audience will hear a Regular 6/8 rhythm instead of a syncopated one. Either shift it or add accents to make it more clear. 3. I don't see the gimmick here. It just seems out of place and not part of the collection.
