  1. So after talking about DAWs and how to make a recording, I figured I'd talk about how I came up with this tune. I wrote on an old workstation keyboard. I recorded it into the computer to make a CD. Then, I wrote the chart out in Finale. Went to the studio and recorded the drums. Took a mic and an MBOX around to different houses/schools and recorded the bass, guitars, horns, strings, and vocals on ProTools. Borrowing from Earth, Wind, and Fire and Toto style and concepts, I have two different guitars. On this track, I have an acoustic on the left and wah on the right.

  2. Some day I need to figure out a good set up, tech-wise, for recording. I'm jealous that you know how to do all this. It's a great skill set and this sounds amazing! (wahk-uh-chick-uh-wahk-uh-chick-uh...) (:

  3. Yo...that's what I'm talking about right there. I couldn't help but to rap a short hook along with the vocals. You have a nice voice and the amount of work you took to reach the overall sound is amazing. Really outstanding work man. When I heard the saxophone come in I melted. I would definitely love to collaborate with you someday on a song.

  4. Jeepers.... you're way more organized and methodical that I could ever be. DEADLINES? GOALS?! HA! When I'm writing, I'll usually have 2 or 3 or 10 VERY raw shreds of ideas. I have to poke them a bit, but one will always bubble to the top. I'll work it until it solidifies and I can finish it; or until it disintegrates and I toss it. Rinse. Repeat. Your point about not being strict and enjoying the process is KEY. Unless, of course, there's a hard-stop deadline - it's true that a fixed endpoint can force you to focus and hone in on things quicker; I've had that happen on occasion, but I try not to let myself get into situations where something needs to be finished on time.
