  1. I'm thinking of doing it in a way that you would normally do an instrumental masterclass. Have signups to write a piece based on specific criteria then review them with specific pointers based on the objective of the masterclass. I would give some basic learning points for the class, the pieces would be short (32 or 64 bars) and the reviews would be public to the forum.

  2. I'm going to clarify that I mean simply reading about techniques is not conducive to learning. QA's are good, but application is the best way to reallyunderstand it as it would be presented

  3. I like it, but I don't connect with it. It sounds like it'd be a great way to show off your skills to a crowd or some friends, but there's no main idea to latch on to and remember. The melodic content that exists in there is very under-used and undeveloped. If the listener can't ascribe meaning to some easily recognizable melodic or harmonic motif, they can't really feel anything for your composition. That makes the name misleading, since there's no tension or drama to justify such an angsty title. I do hope I'm not being too rough with you. I did enjoy it, but in the same way I'd enjoy fireworks and that's okay. Just think of a better title to reflect the razzle-dazzle of the actual music.

  4. I. Probably better to not loop the ostinato so much before the melody comes in. I'd smooth your transitions as well; a lot of them strike me as sudden, despite the effort you put in to make them continuous. The end is abrupt to me also and doesn't does lead into itself. This also reminds me of a war victory theme than a fantasy title screen. Good orchestration though! You know how to layer voices. II. There's a lot of sections for it to be used as accompaniment music, though in fairness I don't know your game. Also good orchestration, but your use of chromatics could be smoother in build sections.

  5. In terms of style, I was going for an east-meets-west sort of thing, with the pentatonic scales in the end parts and the sort of mini polonaise in the middle part. Maybe there could be a better way to do this? On the mm changes and rhythmic irregularity, yes, I am still pretty much experimenting with this. Anyways, thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. :D Awww, this is sweet. Thanks! :D

  6. Hi guys, There is some fantastic advice here, I was having this same problem, trying to develop a piece I really like and make a sonata of it and this thread has helped immensely, maybe it should be a sticky thread for all to follow and to add too from time to time. I will certainly keep coming back to see if there has been any more "trade secrets" given away. With this in mind, is there a neat trick or two for writing smooth transitional passages? I tend to do lots of trail and error until it sounds good, but that takes a lot of time. I'm sure there must be a better way.
