  1. Long time, no see, everyone. Life has unfortunately pulled me away from here—and from composing, in general—for the last few months. Sigh. Sad times. However, I've broken my fast with this choral setting of an Icelandic poem. I apologize in advance for the quality of the recording; I had to sing all the parts myself and render them accordingly, which messes with the frequency:length ratios, so in some parts the voices don't quite match up. Next time I should hire a mixing artist, lol. And a professional choir. Anyway, I've attached the score so you can see how the piece should really sound. The harmonies are based on altered scales and may be rather harsh to some ears. The poem itself is called Strit, which means 'toil'—it's a poem that explores the vanity of all that we do here on earth. I tried to capture some of the bleakness in the harmonies and repeated phrases. I hope you enjoy, and feedback is always welcome! P.S., it feels good to be back

  2. So effortless yet complex... I loved it! Cinematic music at its finest, and just good all-around writing for orchestra. You definitely have a gift! Thanks for sharing with us!

  3. Beautiful and colorful piece. Some impressionistic and oriental touches. It sounds very "cinematic".

  6. I'm sure the theory behind this is complex and staggering, so I'll leave that bit alone. From a listener's standpoint, it was an interesting ride. This isn't music that I'm used to listening to and it seemed quite random, especially in the middle section. The music didn't seem to match the lyrics, but again, my palate isn't used to this kind of music. Take this with a grain of salt. The notation was great. Not sure how playable the piano part is—certainly beyond my abilities. Looking forward to more of your works!

  7. It's a particular style, definitely. I get a little bored of the use of direct appoggiatura suspensions. For example, the motion part right before the end was nice, but could incorporate that idea via compound melody.

  8. I am not familiar with Hisaishi style. But after listening to your piece I really want to. It's a great piece of art and i really loved it. I just think you can add more to it at the end.
