  1. This is a draft of a piece I just finished. I was inspired by looking at the stars the other night. This is why I added so many high sixteenth notes; they reminded me of twinkling stars. I also added a short variation of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the beginning of page 2. As for the name, it’s a reference to when you wish on a shooting star. I really need advice on how to make this better and longer in the final version. I need to lengthen it by 2 minutes and I have some ideas but I want to hear other people’s ideas. Thanks.

  2. Long time no see. I was busy with military business, romantic relationships, covid, etc. Now, at long last, I managed to compose a music piece after more than half a year. The piece is based around the coda of the known Bach piece "Toccata and Fugue in Dm", reimagined as a boss fight with three loop-able phases and transitions. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. As usual, constructive criticism is most welcome. This piece has no score because I don't think it's perform-able.

  4. yeah I checked out the midi, it seems to me that in general there's a toying with B and Bb as well as E and Eb, just giving a savvy unstable and questing atmosphere based around G. You could probably look at this a number of ways, but that's just what I hear 😄 Sure! This was the start of when I started to abandon the idea of major/minor and focused more on all you could do with a tonality (C in this case).

  5. Very cool, I love game music but didn't have starfox growing up haha. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Final Fantasy games...just didn't get to hear this one. It is definitely strange in harmony, interesting you heard A minor. I heard G tonality for the most part, it sounded like G split harmony, like the fanfare upper parts were G major (pentatonic?), but there was some clever use of mode mixture, mostly eluding to Gm. For instance, once the bass starts playing: G |Bb |A |C B Bb A| ...it kinda gives it a split chord type of feel to me (G Bb B D) I was so interested in that concept I wrote a whole piano piece with that being the "home" chord a while back. Cool stuff, thanks for sharing!

  8. Hey Riley I've listened to a few of your pieces now, and I think this one is a great improvement to what you've presented us so far. This one has two distinct voices, and they play well against each other. Where before you had lots of doubling and sameness in your different instrument voices, this piece shows you've learned a lot composing with how much more variation you've put in the overall texture. Well done, I'm excited to hear more from you!

  9. SUBMISSION C : My piece is inspired by the frustration and anger that one has felt during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the chaos of the unpredictable nature of the virus, depicted by the many fast virtuosic running passages, with the introduction as if reminiscing the times before the pandemic hit. Between these negative feelings has contrasting subjects that are in the major key, symbolizing the feeling of hope for humanity that mankind can adapt to the changes caused by the virus and get through this ordeal together. The piece ends in a major key, as a symbol of positivity and hope that mankind can adapt to the virus and create a vaccine before more innocent lives are lost. I intended to maximise the use of the resonance of the open strings in this quartet, as well as to create a virtuosic quartet that can test the limits of the conventional quartet and push the boundaries of contemporary string writing. I have also utilized an unusual structure (Introduction - Theme - 1st Subject - Theme - 2nd Subject - 1st Bridge - 1st Subject - 2nd Bridge using 2nd Subject and 1st Bridge Fragments - Theme - Coda) to add to the uniqueness of the piece.
