  1. Hi, It's my first post on this website, and my first "reasonable length" composition, so please be kind to me. I've composed a piece called 'The Storm'. It's been written for solo piano. Please feel free to comment and critique on my work, and upvote this post so that more people can see it. Here's the MuseScore link. If you can't access that, here's the URL: https://musescore.com/user/37307285/scores/6799675. Many thanks: DoYourDailyDuo

Vielen Dank! Duo Although I love this composition, I think it would benefit from passing tones. I like your use of accidentals to add interest to the composition. However, regarding the bass line, I don't think a pianist would be happy to read that many ledger lines. So perhaps take the notes with too many ledgerlines down an octave. I hope my feedback is helpful. Many thanks, Duo

It is wonderful! To me it is reminiscent of Chopin, because of the tempo rubato and the trills. Furthermore, the arpeggiated bassline adds consistency. If you were to ask me what my favourite part of the piece was, I couldn't decide. It's a beautiful little piece; carry on the great work.

  4. Nice job! I love the flutter-tongue on the high trumpet note at the end! Also you do a great job building a nice and warm contrasting theme that really creates a sense of calm - it's almost reminiscent of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance marches at their more tranquil and serene parts. (My band friends always referred to them as the Pompous Circus Dances). Overall this is a very well written fanfare with very clear and memorable themes presented and a well chosen ensemble for the task. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Wow this fanfare is really beautiful and cinematic. I aspire to compose a fanfare like this, but my most recent take on it isn't really satisfactory and I might rework it based on yours.

  6. Really nice work! Your writing for strings feels very natural and conversational in nature, which is very very good for a string quartet. It is really a good effort for a string quartet. I think what you could try to do is to fragment the motif and really give it room to play around. Perhaps you could have included a few jazz references with the nice polyrhythms to add a little kick, but this is just my opinion as a suggestion. It is really splendid at its current form and I can really feel the Latin influences! You could also try perhaps inserting a tresillo rhythm too!

  7. 07. Mrs. Fieldmouse, Mr. Mole.mp3 This suite of ten short movements tells the story of Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale "Thumbelina," written in my best attempt at the Romantic idiom. For those not familiar with the story, find the full text here or a synopsis here. This piece is the culmination of many, many hours of work for me, and I consider it my best work thus far. It lasts about 25 minutes total. Any feedback would be especially appreciated. Thanks for listening!
