  1. Hi, Here is the first and second movement of a Orchestral Suite I'm writing. I have following dances in mind: I-Allemande II-Courante III-Sarabande IV-Gavotte V-Boureé VI-Air VII-Gigue All movements are written in Binary form. Dances III to VII are just drafted, I have to write them properly and do the fine tuning with the sound patches. I will be posting the rest of the movements when I get them finished. Let me know what do you think!

  4. Hi all This is my first fugue-style piece, for Clarinet and Bassoon. I'd welcome any thoughts and feedback. My first finished piece after a year without composing, it was fun to explore a new style. Dan https://youtu.be/y0SVpLJKf1w

  6. A small piece written when in need of relaxation. Tonal. Though I didn't put a key signature it's in a key of some sort. A departure from my usual stuff. The ensemble is small - five winds and chamber strings. The scoring is maybe unorthodox in my liking for the more mellow of the woodwind family, using an alto flute, cor anglais, clarinet, bass clarinet; and a flugelhorn. Comment is always appreciated, good or bad, so please do if you're of a mind.

  7. Hey, THANKS! How bad of me not to return to acknowledge all your kind comments. I'm not naturally a rude person so my apologies. Please also forgive not writing individual replies as that would extend the thread unnecessarily. Fact is, I didn't imagine anyone would comment on this miniature because it's short and inconsequential. A relaxation from the usual chromatic things I come up with. It was fun to write and score. I'm a great fan of the Bass Clarinet so used that instead of a bassoon. Again, thank you for your comments - much appreciated. Also again, my apologies. Bests, Quin.

  8. Hello everybody! I am very excited to present to you my most recent composition - a piece for solo marimba and string orchestra. It is in standard sonata form. I would like to hear you thoughts on it. Hope you enjoy! The project was made possible by the generous financial support of National Cultural Fund, Bulgaria - https://ncf.bg/bg

  10. Disclaimer: I haven't listened to the other movements, but I will in time. I echo what @malumCompositorsaid about a lack of structure. You have some good ideas here and there, but they seem to be severely disjointed. Try to not to cram everything at once. I did like the motivic figure and its subsequent development from measures 9-16. There are also a lot of questionable harmonic/melodic choices...For starters, the key signature at the beginning is in C minor, but the material is in G major...and it mostly stays in the G major/minor-ish tonality the rest of the piece. There are odd harmonic progressions (the last few measures of the movement for example), harmonic clashes (flute/oboe around 97, B natural in bassoon at 96)....even if intentional, sound very odd. Your string writing is alright. Wind writing on the other hand needs more polish. Overall, a little orchestration studying might be helpful, just to get a general idea of the capabilities for each instrument.

  11. It's really beautiful! I love the fact that you got it recorded by real musicians, they play wonderfully! Thanks for posting!

Vielen Dank! Duo Absolutely beautiful! I would agree with bkho in saying that the ending is a little disappointing compared to the beginning and the middle. Despite this, this piece reminds me of 'Passacaglia' by Handel-Halvorsen. Have a listen to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAIZxaToV2A This is a beautiful piece. Have fun with composing. Many thanks, Duo

  13. I want to start off this review by saying that i listened to parts of the other movements to get the feel of the piece, and i've decided that this would sound great in live recording and if it ever got performed in my town i would go watch it! There are some interesting intricate melodies all throughout this movement which are all really cool individually, but there is not much sense of structure in it. Also some of the harmonies seemed to clash with other parts in some spots, i don't know whether or not this was intentional. There are also some parts like around 3:40 where it sounds a bit confusing and the violins sound like they're playing a completely different piece. Take this review with a grain of salt as i don't know much about composing for large ensembles. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  14. Very nice. Kind of a miniature counterpart to your Storm Etude, which I also enjoyed very much as well. My only slight critique is the ending, for me a least, is a little abrupt.

  15. Thanks a lot for all your help comments and kind remarks. First I was hesitant about releasing the song but when I heard your comments, especially Papagenos about the melody (which I will never forget), I decided to have it recorded. What I realised here was that the oboe-melody that I actually wrote 2013 was so low in register that I could rather had written it for English horn, since it's much easier to keep the intonation in higher register. This wednesday we released it on YouTube. Enjoy:
