  1. I’m one of those who listens as they compose and benefits from that listening.

  2. Thanks for the review. Yes ... it's a quaint little wind piece ... a vignette as you say. ... nothing more than a breeze. I'll take a look at measure 15 and see what gives and I'll review the meter. I wrote a few woodwind miniatures as a collection. Mark

  3. Thank you for listening to my music and for your comments. When I played it I was also unaware of the meter so it may not actually be consistent at all. I dont have a score, I just play the idea from memory and it seems to change each time I play it as I develop the ideas. I had to look up the term rubato, and I think you're right because I was trying to play expressively. At 40 seconds I'm holding a high D natural octave while the left hand plays C7 in arpeggio, the D resolves down to C, I've not seen that done before in the pieces I've played but the effect is quite expressive. I recorded another theme last night that I will play with to create a melancholic piece in a major key. I have 5 or 6 pieces I play from memory now that I compose through improvising.

  4. Yeah that could be true. I guess also I get stuck on whether my ideas sound decent musically or if I should trash it. That’s why I was asking if others if this idea sounded decent to them!

  5. Ahh ok I think I understand what you’re getting at! So you’re saying to just write out what ever comes out and then to go back and to edit to make it sound better?

  6. @Tom Statler I wanted the first piece to have a little bit of a horror feel to it. My inspiration for it was a little apocalyptic. I would say the solo part is more obbligato, than concerto, in the first two. The third piece was intentionally more technically challenging. I had just seen a performance of Beethoven’s violin concerto and was inspired by that. @MJFOBOE thanks for the feed back @PeterthePapercomPoser the ostinato in the second are 2 vibraphones, xylophone, celesta, marimba and crotales. Years ago, I heard an arrangement of Debussy’s Pagodes for a percussion ensemble, and I wanted to write something like it. I wanted to keep the pieces fairly short, so that might have caused me to cut it off a little short. I might revisit the end and expand it some more.

  7. It make sense! I guess sometimes I get into the mindset of comparing what I have with others and feel a bit let down with what I have in comparison to what others make. It makes me start to question of what I’m making sounds decent or musical! so based on your answer I’m guessing you think this idea sounds good and musical and is worth continuing?

  8. Hi there. Thanks for sharing this. It's a really nice piece. I agree with the member above that the ostinato sections are really good and the harmonic changes bit could be made more exciting and more consistent with the opening of the piece by continuing the use of the running scales and arpeggios, maybe? Rather like the right hand part around 1.01 mins? I like the single note ostinato transition into the Allegro section and the transition out of it but maybe you could revisit the themes/cells used at the beginning of the piece at the end to expand it a bit so maybe its like an aria (A B A) in form? Really look forward to hearing more of your work.
