  1. So I did a quick search for "film music" in the content titles only and surprisingly didn't find a thread for ppl's favorite film music tracks. So if you have (individual tracks - don't post the whole soundtrack LoL) favorite film music you'd like to share with the rest of your fellow Young Composer film enthusiasts, reply here! I'll start with this track from the original Jurassic Park movie - Dennis steals the embryo - music by John Williams. I love the quiet intensity of this track with its midi trombone that was probably state-of-the-art at the time! LoL

  2. The Ballade in E-flat minor was written in 2021. Though it is written for solo piano, I had intended to write it for piano and orchestra, and may make a version of it for this ensemble in the future. The piece is about 8 minutes long. I hope you all enjoy it 🙂

  3. Hi, I wrote this piece last fall, it was modeled after Froberger and Buxtehude but might have more of a renaiisance/ flemish/ french feel in places (and i've since dedicated my musical existence to the 'virginalist" school and the 16th century keyboard practice).....because i recorded with an ipad a few feet from the treble end of the harpsichord, the bass end on this recording lacks volume and it's difficult to hear what i wrote in many places..just something to keep in mind. i played it in a recital in december and i have both a handwritten score and an engraved score if anyone's interested.

  4. Hej, I would like to present my new composition. It was not so easy to find the pianist, who could play it. But I suceeded and found a very talented Anna, who played it exactly as I wanted. Maybe for some of you it will bring some peace or reminescence into the hearts. Kind wishes, Tomasz

  5. It's more a traditional prelude than a Chopinesque one. The performers just come on stage with the audience still yattering away and practicing their coughing ready for the performance (!) - and play something assertive to announce "We're here and ready to start once you lot calm down!" I wanted to explore the percussion libraries I bought so decided on a piece for unpitched percussion only. I went on to write a second piece which I felt less happy about. So, please, if you can afford 2 minutes, give it a hearing and PLEASE comment as you see fit, good and bad. One query is whether you find the click track annoying. I varied it over a number of instruments and articulations but, happy with it as I might be, some may hate it. If it works it's a piece I might offer to a contemporary dance troupe that's building up again after lockdown(s). It was finished earlier this year but I did a final rendering yesterday. I haven't an adequate score for it yet. The libraries are pretty comprehensive and the samples span anything from midi C2 to around midi C8 so it'll take a lot more work getting it into a score. They're all orchestral rather than jazz or rock samples. Thank you.

  7. Here a duet for flute and Violin with continuo in a baroque imitating style with some doble conterpoint I composed recently. In the ritornello the flute basically repeats violin phrases in the higher octave. Three episodes are placed between the ritornellos with some flute and Violin solos. Let me know your opinion.

  8. Here a etude I composed for my sons baptism on 17 April 2022. During the ceremony an organ version of that was played. Let me know your opinion.

  9. You probably already know that I dislike film music, hence rarely watch films. I'm more tempted to turn the sound off and bash out a tune on the piano like the old fashioned silent movies!! But my favourite music written for a film was Villa-Lobos' work for Green Mansions. Unfortunately, the maestro couldn't adapt to the way Hollywood works, treating his music with ignorance and only a little of his score was actually used. He converted his work into a large Suite "Forest of the Amazon." (Floresta do Amazonas). It contains one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard. I'll probably be able to think of other film scores I actually liked, enjoyed, at some point. Edit: When they had real orchestras and composers rather than cut and paste merchants 🙂 .

  10. I will head towards some of my favorite moments in music that just happen to be film scores first. This is one of the single most enthralling compositions in the history of the art form:

  11. No it will not be. Not if I post often. I appreciate enough John Williams stuff of course, but I do not worship the man. I am well verse in all film music and am a damn huge fan of it all. Honestly, making posts in this thread that come from my true opinion wouldn't even lead to a 33% John Williams saturation level.

  12. Oh, I never thought about that... That's a lucky finding anyways haha. I guess next time I have doubts with the name of a chord I will see if someone already gave a name to a specific voicing.

  13. Thank you Peter! The words are not Hungarian. There's a choir Kontakt library called Cinesamples Voxos 2, the choir can sing only specified phrases so the librarie's abilities are very limited, but it's lifelike, so I really like it.

  15. Hi, what do you think about this work? It's the piano part playable? Thanks for the suggestions

  16. You have pretty sick piano skills then! I am an accordionist so I'm most probably nowhere near the level required to play (yet :e) it, hell I cannot even play my own pieces, but I'll enjoy reading it while playing the video that's for sure. Thank you for the early reply!

  17. Are the words in Hungarian? Nice job writing for the various choirs in a way that's believable and idiomatic. I love the harmony and how you constantly play with flattening the leading tone and then sharpening it again. There's lots of things that build excitement including some well placed orchestral hits. Great job!

  18. This was basically an experiment to see how useful some choral samples might be for contemporary composition. They fell rather short on resources: more vowels and isolated consonants would have been useful. Even so, I decided to keep this piece, limited as it is, and perhaps use it as a launch for a larger work with full orchestra. I'd probably go over to the EW choir for something like that. The library came up as a bulk deal. I wanted the 7 soloists (they include a coloratura soprano) and the choir came with the bundle. About the score - I haven't tried to organise the percussion conventionally. It is scored. The work is unlikely to be performed live so it would be a wasted effort. The file dates are the final revisions. Any comment would be gratefully received. Many thanks if you can give it a listen.

  19. Marylyn here, the "real" owner of the account LOL. I looked at the score with your introduction explaining the special effects. If you don't mind me saying so, I hope not, I think these would be difficult to render unless your note player can do them but even so, they appear to detract from the piece. Modern or contemporary doesn't have to depend on unusual effects unless you really want them. They're probly too extreme for this experiment and would be great if the entire piece was written in a contemporary vein. The blend would be smoother with only standard playing techniques : naturale (obviously), sul pont, sul tasto, pizz, gliss, portamento (all muted and not) and col legno and harmonics natural and otherwise. Just a thought or two. An ambitious piece and the tonal aspects tell that you know what you're doing!
