  1. So I didn't exactly get in on the "bits and bangers" competition. However, I did compose a mashup of "Hall of the Mountain King" and the theme from the 2001 video game "Luigi's Mansion". Let me know what you think about it!

  2. Hello there. This is a solo guitar piece I recorded for a video that's being made. The details of it aren't final, but there will be dancing in the woods, and things to that effect. I have this tabbed out, so if there's any interest in seeing that I'll make it look pretty, but otherwise, I hope you enjoy! Oh yeah, it's about a girl 😄

  3. A modern piece. Chromatic. Mostly calm, drowsy. I'm trying to move on from previous work which has been mostly chromatic. It was inspired by a "mood" but I haven't titled it. Through-composed, no tune of merit beyond a few motifs; relies on contrasts in the registers of instrumental groups; sustained veils of sound punctuated by rhythmical outbursts usually brass. The time signature is arbitrary. Texture is generally thin. The audio file is numbered XX (20) but it's closer to No.14 (all written over half a dozen years or so. I scrapped a few and renumbered them. There’s a score problem yet to resolve: I’m asking for 2 Trombones but in fact started writing for 3. I’ll have to add a third part in the final clear-up. Another problem is with the engraving - this notation software can’t “change voice” with a tuplet without making a right mess. So there are points in the brass with 2 voices on the same staff in triplets that I’ve left as chords rather than tails-up/tails-down. I’ll deal with that later. If you have time to give it a listen, many thanks. Critique is always appreciated and gratefully received, good or bad. Two versions of the score are offered: one with all staves throughout, the other with only staves used on a page.

  4. Thanks for the feedback! The basic concept I had, is the music starts off at the train station as departure time arrives. The train starts moving slowly through the city, picking up speed as it goes. As soon as the train makes its way into the country (2:12), it hits fool speed ahead, before making it's next stop at a small village station. The focus then shifts (4:00) to people at the station arriving for the train into town. Then the train begins (6:00) to make it's way back on the journey, racing through the countryside. I do like that people can hear different things in it though... it's better than hearing nothing!

  5. Here is one of my past works, reexport with Musescore 4. An direct imitation to Avro Part's Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten. I did have meaningfully chosen the building block of the works, such that it won't get confused easily with Part's work. I hope you guys might feel heavy after listening this.

  7. How come I miss this post! For me it must be Chopin's Cello Sonata. You don't often see the pianist THIS difficult in a chamber work!! It's very hard to be utterly pianistic but still maintain the ensemble-ship between the two instruments but I think Chopin achieve this! The cello sings so well yet the Piano doesn't lose its charming Chopinistic touch. Sadly he didn't write much chamber works!

  10. Hi Vince! Thank you so much for your reviee, badge and promotion! I deeply apperciate that! The first movement begins on a slow tempo and this movement is the only movement that is fiery. I really hope I can make those recordings as soon as possible! When composing this particular I had tried a completely different method. I had done zero planning and allowed my heart and mind to freely flow on what I want to have. This results in utterly different characters in all 5 movements and can be a problem like what Schumann commented on Chopin's Second Piano Sonata, "four (five here) of Chopin's maddest children under the same roof"! I use this short movement to deny the beauty and positives of the first movement, which allow the music to finally resolve trickily in a Taoistic manner in the final movement. (Again the theme developed later on in the Clarinet Quintet: to accept and play with the negatives to have hope) I use Sonata form sort of to compensate the lack of sonata form of the first movement, which is in a simple ternary form. As I've said I freakingly love the finale of Chopin's 2nd Sonata and I wanted to try compress the form as well! Haha I still find many slips in the recording but I've tried my best already, so I am satisfied with it! Thanks so much for your review and appreciation, Vince! Henry

  11. I like trains too. I share the frightening feeling Henry, Alex and Peter hinted but there are stains of less dense but more flowing music, the section at around 4:25 sounds purely mysterious, and minding the train trip I naturally imagined the typical assassination case in a train. I would say the fact we see or feel different with this piece enriches it more than impoverishes it, at least in my opinion. The drums also resemble a train clattering! The final section seems a bit "too much", like if the train were about to derail, but seems it didn't happen in the end. In summary, I found this work solid, with many intense moments, many contrasts and stuff going on, just as one would expect of such a long trip. Kind regards, Daniel–Ømicrón.

  12. I think many parts of this sound very heavy and belabored and more horrific, which is apparently not your intent. But those sections are interspersed with more propulsive parts although very often I also feel that the piece lacks the drive and energy I'd associate with a train ride. The opening contrabassoon (I think?) is quite characteristic of something big and heavy - more like a cruise-ship rather than a train. Nice touch also ending on that same opening idea. It certainly does make for quite interesting music of course which is by this point something expected from you. Good job and thanks for sharing! Btw - as an aside, I think Prokofiev liked trains in general and found them quite inspirational musically. I think he composed quite a bit of his music while traveling on trains including his famous Symphony No.1 the "Classical" (if not the whole thing then at least the driving last movement).
