  1. Well done! I will just echo what @Henry Ng Tsz Kiu said about variation 4 and its creative use of inversion and the minor mode - coupled with the dark tone color of that range of the clarinet - it's a very fitting combination! I am left with a yearning in this piece to maybe have heard some more harmonic adventurousness instead of just relying on the Eb tonal center and variations in virtuosic figuration. You seem to follow a sort of classical tradition of making melodic and figurational variations based on the same or similar harmonic progression. It would have been even better if you had modulated or changed the harmonic rhythm more or fragmented and rearranged the fragments of the theme in a different order! But just because this piece is finished doesn't mean you can't revisit the theme in a later work and find more creative variation if the fancy strikes you! I would gladly hear it! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Hello all, I am new here in the forum. I am 25, live in Bonn (Germany) and am a computer scientist by profession. I've been composing for a few years and have already written many works. I play piano since I was 8 years old and also a little organ and clarinet. Everything I know about composing, however, I have acquired myself and has come about through a lot of practice. Unfortunately, I never had composition lessons, so I still make some mistakes, for example, in notation, form theory, etc. I compose mainly large orchestrated works and always strive to raise my technical standards and write more complex pieces. The movement is the final movement of my 8th symphony and contains both quiet passages and more moving ones. The movement reflects well my preference for romantic harmonies. The movement itself is quite free and does not follow a main motive (although there are recurring structures). It's very long I know but I would really appreciate your opinion. Also, please give me constructive criticism and especially suggestions on how I could improve further. About the instrumentation: Woodwinds: 2 flutes 2 Alto Flutes 2 Bass Flutes 2 oboes 1 English Horn 2 Clarinets in Bb 2 bassoons 1 Contrabassoon Brass: 4 French horns in F 1 trumpet 4 trombones 1 bass tuba percussion instruments Timpani tubular bells Strings: 1st violins (14) 2nd violins (10) violas (8) Cellos (8) Double basses (8) Symphony 8, Mov. 4 Finale.pdf Here the Soundcloud link: Greetings Nico

  3. This is a song I wrote and want to put a vocal on but I hate my singing. It’s primarily an acoustic guitar song. I’d like to know what people think of the melody and arrangement. Please feel free to comment. It’s a virtual guitar that I painstakingly transferred over from my fingering on my real guitar. I prefer virtual instruments over real instruments for my recordings because I have more control over them. This was done in the Sonar 8.5 piano roll as I do all my stuff. Thanks for listening. -Rick

  4. I was rummaging through my bag of misfit music and thought someone might enjoy this short little waltz I composed a few years ago. It was from back when I was learning my DAW (Sonar 8.5.) I've never updated Sonar because it never crashes and just works really well. Like the old saying goes; "If it ain't broke don't fix it". It was very frustrating for me learning all the techie stuff in Sonar and I still barely know what I'm doing. Anyway, enjoy! -Rick

  6. Dear @Saltypenguin, Haha again you don't have to afraid to share your works here! No one will eat you for that haha! If you think they are bad, sharing your pieces help you learn most! If they are good, it will for sure bring you pleasure seeing the postive feedbacks and reviews! You can also review more pieces on here as well! Your opinion is crucial as well! Henry

  7. 12:56 into the 16 minute section is SO SO SO SO good. Love the C-G-D motif reappearing in different places/keys as well. The bass motif in the earlier section (approx. 3:14) is super juicy. Congrats on finishing the large work!
