  1. I was trying to write a sonatina but it ended up a bit too long and difficult. I see this as a weakness as I could not express more with less. Anyway I don't think I go back to this piece again, my style has moved on from this. (although for this piece I tried to made it specifically easy but still failed...) Thanks for discord people encouraging me to share my (not so) old works though, I had more to share in the coming days I think. Edit: actually if you have ways to simplify the musicality and difficulty of the piece I would like to know very much SonatinaA.mid

  2. Thanks to @PeterthePapercomPoser and @luderart for the ideas in this. It was my first dabble at using the mystic chord and a #4b7 mode, as well as trying out a short undeveloped form. I like the result, and hope you do to.

  4. @Henry Ng Tsz Kiu sorry for the late reply. It doesn't surprise me to read that my work is Haydnesque. I've studied both Mozart and Haydn extensively. This is one moment in the movement I might wish I'd done differently. If I ever get around to a revision, I'll consider it. This is the best coda of any of my symphonies, in my own estimation, so it's gratifying you enjoyed it. Thank you very much! I'm very proud of the way this movement turned out. This Menuetto is one of my best! I'm glad you found the humour in it, also very Haydnesque. I think you're right! Again, if I ever take up a revision of this piece, this is one of the things I'll probably change. I was going to leave it in the Clarinet and Oboe, but in the end I thought the change of instruments to Bassoon and Flute would provide needed variety. Glad you liked the ending, another of my best! Thank you SO MUCH for your review!

  7. Yeah better spend your time for quality than quantity! You show that you have the ability to polish your own works! What if you spend an hour or even longer for a piece of composition?

  8. Hi @hw1234 @HtWinsor, I definitely see improvement in your music! The orchestration is fuller and the harmony with more functionality! There're some imitations between piano and orchestra too! I like the section in b.11. The modulation to relative Bb major in b.19 sounds abrupt for me. You should at least have a full close of G minor before modulating! Ofc for a concerto the solo piano should display more technicality and be more showy and virtuosic. But this is definitely an improvement comparing to previous works. How much time do you spend on this one? You should spend more time on better works instead of 5 minutes on a sketch! Thanks for sharing Henry! Henry

  9. Hi @hw1234 @HtWinsor, The first period (b.1-8) is quite likable! I think in b.9 it suddenly becomes a flamingo for the RH melody. The tuplets are quite playful but you can have diferent notes instead of repeated notes. After b.16 it indeed becomes marchish. I think you should maintain the waltz rhythm! The E flat major ending is fine but you have to establish with finer modulatory proces like using half cadence and PAC. Thanks for sharing! Henry

  10. Hi @hw1234 @HtWinsor , I won't repeat the review I have given for the 1st mov. For me the 2nd "movement" is only a period. The harmonic progression is fluent and you should develop it! (again!) For 3rd mov: B.53 chord can be written for seperate hands rather than five notes for RH. I see it's in three part structure with I-V-I. Each section can again be developed. I like your coda with IV suggested and makes the PAC good, except you should make a stronger V chord. Thanks for sharing! Henry

  11. Hey Peter, That's a good spark of inspiration! Right after your suggestion I have an idea: in b.141 I should have Gb and Fb instead of G and F in the melody, and in bar 142 I should have a V/iv there instead of a normal Ab major. That should make the music darker and smoother! Thx Peter 😘 Henry
