  1. I've been listening to a fair few pieces titled 'Romance' lately, and was wondering what everyone's favourite romances were. I'll Start: Beethoven-Romance No.2 in F Major C.-A. Beriot- Romance from Premier Guide Du Violinste

  2. They all have their merits! I'll break it down: 1st symphony has the second strongest opening, but a solid first movement 2nd has the STRONGEST opening out of the entire suite 3rd has amazing thematic development all around 4th may be my favorite. Watch my clipped video here 5th is a good "all around" symphony, and my favorite section is here, and another good part is here. 6th is the masterpiece in this group. His first and last movements are sublime. So I will also say 4th and 6th are my favorite, but the other symphonies also have their merits.

  3. Haha I will sneak in to answer before Mike. My fav are his 4th and 6th. They are absoulte masterpieces. The fate motive in the 4th is oppressing, while the 6th is so tragic. The 5th I once loved it but now I don't love them as much as the other 2 since I feel like the big promise in the 1st movement somewhat get forfeited in the 3rd movement. I love the 2nd movement very much, but the 3rd mov is too unrelatef to the gtand scheme and the 4th movement's structure is not cohered as well, making the ending less powerful. Henry

  4. Hello Arjuna!! I'm glad to be back šŸ˜„ I am so glad you enjoyed it!! Usually I write the piano versions simple so that way everyone can play it. It helps me visualize the music easier for the moment of orchestration too. The accompinament is usually simple in these versions, although I agree with you I can vary the Oom-pah-pah pattern more. That way each valse does have more variation. I'll keep that in mind! Maybe it even gives more energy to the live performances I (or a friend) sometimes do šŸ˜„ Thank you so much again Arjuna!!

  5. Although it's not a romance, my favorite romantic piece of music is Brahms' Intermezzo Op. 118 No. 2 in A major. I actually performed this myself at one time or another.

  7. Hello Henry! Thank you so much! I'll try to fit a No. 5 waltz in there in maybe section A key of B flat and section B in g minor. In case I succesfully do it I will share it and see if it sounds good. And I'll for sure review non-waltz or dance music works! I am not used to very complex harmonies because even a funeral march someone commissioned, I used simple harmonies šŸ™‚ however, I'll try my best!

  8. I really can't think of any romances in the Piano literature, there are ones by Schuamnn and Brahms but I don't particularly like them. Maybe I will just post my favourite Bagatelle here: The op.126 set of Bagatelles is one of my favourite of Beethoven. The pieces are squeezed between the giants of the Ninth and the Late Quartets, but they are very special. I think Beethoven attained purity here, and that purity and honesty will be continued to be displayed in his late quartets, particularly the slow movements. I freakingly love this Bagatelle. It's simple but so moving. Anderszewksi plays so well here to capture that purity, and the tempo is slower than many of the other recordings. I love his Diabelli Variations too! Henry

  9. Hi Oliver, You have some lovely modulations in this piano piece again! If I were to give any criticism, it's that some of your tempo changes don't quite feel natural to me. I think it might be more expressive if the accelerando transitions were a bit more subtle. Occasionally it feels rushed, and you could draw more emotional impact from the music by slowing it down a touch.

  10. This is really good, and I would say it's quite authentic to the culture. I'm not Russian, but I might as well be since I listen to a lot of Russian composers. I have all 6 of Tchaikovsky's symphonies down quite well and have a grasp of the style. Opinion: This piece should be a short single movement piece, and remain in a suite of Dances.
