  1. A piece primarily for lutes I composed inspired by the aesthetic of games like Diablo and Blasphemous, but with a more classical approach to the composition. This is the non-looping version. I wound up using entirely string instruments by accident. Even all the supporting parts are some kind of string lol. Let me know what you think of it! Also, if you're playing Diablo IV, send me a PM and we can play sometime.

  2. Hey Guys, I participated in a competition. The task is to compose an original piece of music about this artwork below. I tried to evoke the atmosphere of "spaghetti western" films. What do you think? I'm curious about your opinion. I've been working on it, so feel free to give me some advice or ideas! Thank you! (I almost forgot, the time limit is 90 sec, so this is the reason why is so short this piece of music.) The artwork itself: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/XnXOEa Here's the piece of music itself. The embedded player disappeared for some reason... It could have been some kind of bug. The funny is, let's take a look at the height of this post, without any content. These are not line breaks, this is the size of the SoundCloud player... https://soundcloud.com/olivercomposer/western-wasteland

  3. Edit: I changed the structure of the piece a little bit after posting this on youtube and used the fast section as a sort of coda for the piece. The new final version is attached as an audio file.

  5. Thank you so much for the warm words! This actually isn't played by a real pianist and is just a midi playback. I made sure to add all the rubato and dynamic details manually because I thought that they were really integral in making this piece work. Your criticisms are valid but maybe if I had composed it all simple, it would have sounded too homogeneous? I don't know it's a matter of taste. But I do think you're right about the figurations not adding anything vital to this piece. Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment 😊

  6. @PeterthePapercomPoser Thanks so much for taking a few minutes out of your day to listen and comment! I'm glad the effect worked according to my intentions! I'm disappointed that you didn't find it particularly tuneful (in the best sense), but I know what you mean about ragtime melodies being more pianistic than singable. I suppose the best a lot of them can hope for is that they're catchy. Ragtime is primarily dance music, though it was surely used as parlour and saloon music. I'm gratified that you liked the harmonic movement of the piece as well. Thanks again for your time and kind words.

  7. Something I am working. It’s supposed to depict a murder at the foundry and unraveling the mystery. Lemme know what you think, any suggestions on musicality or dynamics is welcomed. thanks in advance

  8. Hi, thanks for listening! Here are the lyrics: Verse 1: Behind the wall, making a plan To earn a buck, destroy the land Take it to the street you gotta' show them what you mean, you wanna' let it out and maybe a cause a scene Little did you know that it wasn't gonna' do it, they've broken up the planet, now you want to glue it Pre-chorus: You don't know what you're doing Blinded by your greed Chorus: As I'm gazing at the sky, I can see it's full of fire My last day on earth, end of human kind As the ending starts to rise Verse 2: Walking the streets, smoke in my lungs Flickered out, everyone's done

  9. Hi @PeterthePapercomPoser Thank you for your comment ! I was trying to do a smooth, quiet and relaxing piece, but the free soundfonts kinda ruined it. Also, I receantly heard the 'Valses nobles et sentimentales' from Ravel, so the first one used a pandiatonic chord and I wanted to try it, I omitted the F# because it was to dissonant 😅. Well, I find it very difficult to feel the tempo and measures, that's why my music is always changing tempo and bar indicators.

  10. I love this! Great job! Would you post the lyrics for the members at large to be able to follow along with the lyrics? I can't understand all the words in the recording. But other than that the recording is really great! Thanks for sharing!

  11. I think the touch of a real pianist (did you perform it?) is superior at bringing out the important melody in high relief above the rest of the material. It also seems to be more true to your intention as the composer. The 2nd version also has many rubato tempo variations which feel very authentic and real too so I wonder whether this version was also performed by a human being but on a midi keyboard. I also like the YouTube version better as I find the ending on A minor 9 more satisfactory and like the home key. I personally didn't like some of the complicated figurations that occur in the middle of the piece as I feel they don't add any musicality to the really great main theme you've crafted. I just feel like keeping things simple would have been more emotionally effective and homogeneous. Thanks for sharing!

  12. The mysterious vibe created by the high repeating ostinato is rudely interrupted by the sforzando crescendo to fortissimo chords which are very jarring, as I guess you intended. I also like @Henry Ng Tsz Kiu's interpretation. The high ostinato is very foreboding and sets the stage for the huge contrast that you accomplish with the sforzando chords. There is however deep unease in both of the polar opposites presented in the piece. Great job and thanks for sharing!

  13. Very nice and colorful! I love the pandiatonic dominant chord you have in measure 22 right before the D.C. al Fine. A, B, C#, D, E, and G are all included - all that you're missing from the chord to include the whole scale is F#! The way you voiced it is also quite beautiful, avoiding the b9 that would be present between the C# and D by placing the D below the C# making a much more palatable major 7th. Your phrasing is also unique, but in the very beginning it sounds more like there's three measures of 9/8 rather than the 6/8 measures you have. The fourth measure of 9/8 (which makes it sound like a 4 measure phrase) is cut short by one beat. This is strengthened by the entrance of the woodwinds in measure 5 beat 2. The introduction, before the melody comes in, also sounds like a 9/8 measure. But those are just nitpicky meter things that doesn't really affect how the music sounds. Thanks for sharing!

  14. I love this combination, they are two of my favorite instruments, but to tell the truth, this is the first time I hear them in combination. And I love the music you wrote.
