  2. Well well well... And so it's Christmas again, and once again, here's a little song that's wrapped up in a YC submission bow. This song is about waking up in the middle of the night. Sleigh bells could be heard outside, and a faint echo of a "ho ho ho" whispered in my ears. I was in a haze, stolen from my precious REM sleep as I mustered my way around the house. A task had been given to me. 🎄 The Crusty Candy Cane 🎄 Oh no, it happened once again... it's gone The favored flavor disappeared into the night The ones that are left will never do; they're not the same I know, none are good enough There's only one, crusty candy cane I need to find out where it went * * * So no more messing around... it's late I search the house until I find it's hiding spot It shouldn't be so hard to find, it's very unique It has gunk, grime, slime, saliva, and it smells And sometimes I feel like I'm in hell When I am near that dirty thing * * * But I still need it now It's not under the couch or by the Christmas tree Maybe it was taken far outside again And left out in the cold with all the muddy snow I don't know but as I pass the kitchen I find my nostrils are reacting pretty viciously And could it be, through my groggy fog A miracle, glistening... * * * Ho, ho, holy and finally It's right there by the chair, now I can get to sleep I pick it up, the smell is not so bad I'm just cranky Inside my, bedroom his ears perk up As I, give him back his favorite toy He finds peace, comfort, and joy He finds peace, comfort, and joy

  3. Today I present my most recent work for piano. It's a "poéme" influenced by Scriabin. In about five minutes I tried to experiment with these typical sonorities, chords and textures, which lead myself to really strange paths what made me check few times everything to be sure about what was the intention and direction of every passage of the piece. I noticed that it's really easy (or at least it was for me) to go from central peiod of Scriabin to somewhat around Debussy and weird Jazz. The form of the piece is A-B-C-A, quite traditional way but I intended the themes to really blend beetween themselves and in some parts you can notice that the themes reapear in fragments in other places. (examples: the final motif of b.10 appears in bar b.36 and b.51-53 b.5 motif later in the recapitulation gets really expanded to the climax of the work being mixed with motif from b.19 in b.63-66 b.11 motif is developed into the C theme also I let yourselves to identify motif of the first theme along the piece) This piece was intended to be somewhat like a three mvts. sonata, then two mvts influenced by Scriabin 4, but finally I decided it to be in one being a "poéme". In the picture of the video you can see something near to what this piece suggests me. You are free to imagine from this point whatever it makes you feel and what story does it tell. I hope you like it and wait for your comments. Poème.pdf

  4. Hope you all had a great Christmas! I'll review the last few pieces probably later today. Another massive thank you to you all for participating - it's been a good year for the event. Hopefully I'll be able to run it again next year, if not then someone else will. And @PeterthePapercomPoser, is it time for the ✨festive badges✨? Merry Christmas!

  5. Really nice. I like the melody, it's kind of catchy. Awesome counterpoint, sound very baroque-ish. I thought something was a little off about the phrasing and then I noticed that the second period is 9 bars while the first one is 8. That added bar is unusual, is that on purpose?

  6. Hi, Let me first say I really enjoyed playfulness of work and the light texture. At times there were moments I thought about the composer Ottorino Respighi. I feel the work has so much more potential. One thing I noticed is - I experience too many pauses in the narrative. The momentum began, I expected more excitement, and development. I did like your choice of instrumentation and orchestration. So you have a potential gem here ... Get some more feedback/advice and go for it. Mark

  7. Hi @Awsumerguy, I think the piece is full of orchestral colour! I love your use of piccolo and snare drum throughout the piece. It sometimes reminds me the 2nd and 5th movement of Beethoven’s Pastoral! I think of the shortcoming of the piece is the key and harmonic progrssion. The piece not only is entirely in C major, but there’s even no half cadence there! To me almost all the chords are C major chords! Even though it signifies the King’s Arrival, I think it is still too bright and “correct” for it! You can definitely much more contrast of keys and tonalities in it! Whenever I finish a new piece I usually just ignore the older ones and think them less good than I think they are before! That’s for sure means a growth in your writing! Thx for sharing! Henry
