This is the title song from my musical by the same name, the second half of the video explains the context of the song. The song is meant to be a fifth lower, accompanied by string orchestra, and sung by a tenor. I'd appreciate feedback both on the video and the music- not the performance, I'm a professional violinist, not a singer! Cash2 points

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I stumbled on this amazing website today and I am excited to become a part of it. Normally I write classical music or religious arrangements, but the piece I attached below is a bit different. It is a result of a game I was playing with my sister, who is also a amateur composer, where we spun a wheel with every instrument on musescore. I got the combination of Flute, Violin, Piano, Contrabass, and Drumset. I made a lighthearted catchy piece that has hints of lofi and sounds like some sort of background music. I intentionally made it simple, something that I struggle with my normal compositions. Any feedback is appreciated! https://musescore.com/user/58186651/scores/137744442 points

Thanks. I tried to show what it was like being creative in a pretty normal ordinary social world sometimes. Not here just day to day living in the world. The dramatic turns are supposed to reflect a world that is not always recongized or given the time of day.2 points

When I was in first grade, I wrote a song, lyrics, melody, accompaniment, and all. My mom ended up taking the lyrics and printing them with my picture, because she was so proud- I've attached that here. I performed it for my elementary school, for a poetry competition, but I didn't win; I was disqualified, because the administration was convinced I had plagiarized it, because they didn't think a first grader could do that. They couldn't tell us who they thought I plagiarized from, yet still disqualified me. I'm still salty, and it's the reason I don't really do competitions/contests.2 points

made this song after being inspired by some NieR tracks. Lemme know what yall think! There are a few hiccups that I forgot to edit before I uploaded the tracks as well: Part of the tracks main melody was quantized wrong and there’s a synth that I accidentally left running longer than it was suppose to. 11 Scriptorium (System).mp31 point

Hello Everyone, This is a hybrid orchestral space music with symphonic and electronic instruments. I'm curious about your opinion. (If you see a "do not click here" text, don't worry, I'm just testing the click-through rate with this thumbnail. If you don't see it, I replaced it with the original.)1 point

Piano Sonata no.1 in A major Pastoral First Movement 13-01-2023.pdf This is the scored version of the first movement of my Piano Sonata no.1 in A major, Pastoral (2015). It's called pastoral since I subconsciously use the theme from Beethoven Symphony no.6 in the same name. It's more influenced by Beethoven's op.101 though. This movement and the whole sonata is basically a practice on using one single motive throughout the piece. In this movement sonata form is used. The prime motive is used as the first subject and the inverted form is used as the second subject. Hope you enjoy! I personally don't value this piece highly though. I plan to record the 2nd movement as well, but the 3rd and 4th movements I am in doubt of their quality, so I probably won't record them. P.S. Please find the youtube video, mp3 and pdf file! This recording is recently recorded and the score is polished a little bit. Henry P.P.S. The second movement of the work is posted on YC with the link below:1 point

Well well well... And so it's Christmas again, and once again, here's a little song that's wrapped up in a YC submission bow. This song is about waking up in the middle of the night. Sleigh bells could be heard outside, and a faint echo of a "ho ho ho" whispered in my ears. I was in a haze, stolen from my precious REM sleep as I mustered my way around the house. A task had been given to me. 🎄 The Crusty Candy Cane 🎄 Oh no, it happened once again... it's gone The favored flavor disappeared into the night The ones that are left will never do; they're not the same I know, none are good enough There's only one, crusty candy cane I need to find out where it went * * * So no more messing around... it's late I search the house until I find it's hiding spot It shouldn't be so hard to find, it's very unique It has gunk, grime, slime, saliva, and it smells And sometimes I feel like I'm in hell When I am near that dirty thing * * * But I still need it now It's not under the couch or by the Christmas tree Maybe it was taken far outside again And left out in the cold with all the muddy snow I don't know but as I pass the kitchen I find my nostrils are reacting pretty viciously And could it be, through my groggy fog A miracle, glistening... * * * Ho, ho, holy and finally It's right there by the chair, now I can get to sleep I pick it up, the smell is not so bad I'm just cranky Inside my, bedroom his ears perk up As I, give him back his favorite toy He finds peace, comfort, and joy He finds peace, comfort, and joy1 point

Yes, Poulenc is definitely worth checking into if you aren't familiar with him! May I recommend one of his piano concertos: and also his cello sonata: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=-ImBojYDiyU&list=OLAK5uy_nMh7q0UNFwT2s6UDE-idgMjMCpXHxiOWk They are excellent works, he is quite an underrated impressionistic composer.1 point

Very adventurous piece. It's full of life and character! Despite its brevity you managed to contain a decent amount of well done transitions. I just love the ending. Kind regards!1 point

This is lovely. Great writing for the harp. The piece is reminded me of Poulenc's Mouvements perpetuels, with its unpredictable, sudden, yet pleasant changes in mood. Poulenc's Mouvements perpetuels https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=J013U_DsHLM&list=OLAK5uy_nMh7q0UNFwT2s6UDE-idgMjMCpXHxiOWk1 point

I think it sounds wonderful. I love the melody at the 16-second mark -catchy.1 point

This sounds professional. It is in the vein of NieR. I can't help but wonder if you used a reverb plugin or if that is an out-of-the-box vst sound. The arpeggio around the 55-second mark is a hook for me. Thanks for sharing.1 point

This is short but epic! The gradual development and adding of layers kinda parallels with Suzume's main theme, just without a human voice, and with much more use of percussion. The use of percussion here makes it sound more Idk... western-movie-like/ like the music of other popular and long anime series rather than the songs of an anime movie. Some parts of this remind me of the main theme of the soundtrack of Magnificent Century, a Turkish historical fiction series.1 point

Beautiful! I couldn't help but smile to hearing Beethoven's style. I really respect those who can replicate those old classical ideas. Beautifully played as well, my congratulations to you!1 point

Welcome to the forums, Musical! That's a very nice idea you had there. And it sounds quite good and fresh. Perhaps it's on my end only, but the bass sounds so dense it makes the piece less light than what the melody and the mood it establishes suggest. Still, you really made things flow, and the ending was so charming. Really glad to have you here and I hope you be around for a long time. BTW, we allow posting .pdf and .mp3 files without hard restrictions. Consider it when sharing your piece. It is sometimes easier for us to review and comment pieces without going outside of the forums. That said, I really found your piece very enjoyable and I think others will as well. Kind regards, Daniel–Ømicrón.1 point

LOL I thought this was going to be an easy vote but it seems not. GREAT. Unironically GREAT. This I noticed too. I enjoyed this a lot, I am sharing this piece of gold right now!!! Belated happy new year, I guess? Thanks.1 point

My exact feeling. I would say that if the video didn't show space but another background —a peaceful one or a grandiose one, at times— this piece would equally fit there. It's true that the choice of electronic instruments makes the piece less appealing for non-space environments but that's just cause of the timbre of one of those instruments. Just my two cents here, Olivér. In any case, glad to listen another great work from you. BTW, was it intentional that it kind of resembled your "The Cursed Castle" from Melodies of the Fantasy at its very beginning? They are both in G minor (or begin in G minor at least). Perhaps you just like that key :B. Kind regards, Daniel–Ømicrón.1 point

Hi @DanJTitchener, I enjoy each different sections of it! The quotations of the Christmas tune is great too! Maybe it's a bit too much material for a short piece under 3 minutes, but I think as a Christmas medley it's enjoyable! Thx for sharing! Henry1 point

i can certainly join the competition, although given my current situation where my neighbors complain about the piano, i’d probably have to record it on clavichord (a la antonio de cabezon) - but it would certainly be playable on piano.1 point

Short story time So, I was GOING to do acoustic, but the action on my guitar smoked a J and got real high over the last few years. I didn't want to take it in to a luthier because I have the horizontal crack of doom creeping it's way to the bridge and I'm scared. It's 20 years old but it's my baby and yeah I need a new acoustic. So then I decided to use electric, but my amp is at the drummer-of-the-dumbo-band-I'm-in's house. That's like, an hour away, you know? So there I was, just a good ole' sm57 with no amp, a guitar that's not perfect so I won't play it (at least for recording), and I'm pretty sure I had a pimple on my nose as a grown postpubescent man. Well, I have Ableton. The amp's on it are wack, and I haven't delved into the wiry realm of guitar plugins. I went through a grueling slog of research and discovery about this mysterious and foreign dilemma, and ultimately, after a sweaty agonizing 7 minute video, I made progress. Then... get this... I spent ANOTHER FIVE WHOLE MINUTES downloading the required free plugins from sites that draped an anxiety-induced curtain over my precious little heart. I made it. Whew. They're alright, the free plugins. I still prefer mics and amps, and I still prefer having someone that isn't a complete dunce such as myself to record me. But if you want to have fun with that stuff, the free routes seem like a good place to start. For me, but for you too. That's right, Peter. I'm tired of imagining your poor guitar under a tumultuous mound of PetertheProcrastinatingPracticer's dead skin cells. DUST, son. I'm talking about DUST on your guitar. It craves and desires to be played. It's 2024 now, time to get pickin and grinnin. Then you can of course save up with your newfound passion of the guitar and get an electric. Then you can get a new computer. Then you can get an updated DAW. And THEN, you can get some free plugins. Oh yeah, and thanks for listening to my song. My dog's name is Beau, I also have his brother Max (same litter). I'm glad you liked the gunk, grime, slime, saliva part. I'm proud of the alliteration, then rhyme, then different alliteration. Having fun with the words and all that.1 point

Hi @Gabriel Carlisle! I like the delicate and glistening piano texture you introduce in the beginning (and cool delay effect as well). There is lots of space in the instrumentation/orchestration - everything is clear and nothing is too thick. I like that - often beginners over-orchestrate their tracks - sometimes, less is more. I think as far as setting an ambiance for a certain location within a game, this track is spot on. It gets more intense when the percussion comes in. Great job and thanks for sharing!1 point

New year, new project: a cantata! This will be the first (out of four) aria, featuring the timeless classic of solo flute & tenor duo. The structure will likely end up being A-B-B' separated by both complete and incomplete instrumental ritornellos. Note that the score is currently very messy with missing figurings. A few thoughts: What would be a suitable libretto? The second aria will employ Goethe's poem "Wanderer's Nightsong", so anything in that ballpark will be great. I am once again focusing on making the playback sound as good as possible. Are there any good soundfonts for Baroque music (without much vibrato)? How does the playback currently sound? MIDI-like or close to real music? Are there any parts which sound obtrusive or weird? Any other comments warmly welcomed!1 point
