  1. Thank you! I noticed that the notes are like that. Do you know by chance how I can fix this issue where the notes are in correct 4/4 time? Iā€™m using musescore 4.

  2. Hi all, This is one of my old compositions for piano, written in piano roll editor. It does not have good music sheet. Wistful is a word that describes this. Duration 2:21. It consists of different kind of short parts.

  3. Hi @PeterthePapercomPoser šŸ™‚ You're right, this piece hasn't a structured thematic writing. It's more a flaw surging out of my head (heart ?) along writing. My favorite piece for orchestra, I'd say Beethoven's violin concerto (very thematic piece šŸ˜‰). Regarding symphonies, the first that cames to my mind is Beethoven's 2nd movement of the 7th. But I wouldn't aim to write a similar piece. Thanks for your thoughts, it's useful. Best regards šŸ™‚ Marc

  4. You're welcome(: And to be honest, I haven't seen your other pieces yet. When I have the time, I'll check them out. I believe you when you say you improved over time:) I haven't heard the original; maybe you can send me a YouTube video of it for a quick listen. However, I agree with your statement on the chromatic harmonies and moving lines: they add a lot of texture and color to your arrangement. The unresolved 9-8 is especially genius too. As for making your piece stronger, I consider your ending dynamic edits a nice move. In my opinion, the transition of ff - p is a bit sudden, and the new mp - p has a feeling of calm and peace. For the instrumentation change, I suggest making the new extra violin line a melody-harmony combo like you mentioned. I feel doubling the melody would be too much and will overpower the 2nd violin harmony. Maybe you can upload the new version with the extra violin, and let's see how it goes. Never heard of this software, but sounds really interesting and will take a look at it. Really smart use of PDF manipulation;)

  5. Of course - no problem. Sorry my feedback wasn't too in depth, usually I'm a little earlier to the threads, so there's more I can say. And yes, the tenor sax, or even a bass clarinet would be šŸ”„ on the main melody. You have a beautiful piece here already, but I think orchestrating it, and possibly developing it into a concerto would be well worth the time and effort. Good luck šŸ‘šŸ¾

  6. Hello yet again @Marc Deflin! I don't think the octave doublings in this are too extravagant. I do notice a cool idea you use in this is canonic imitation which is one of my favorite melodic/contrapuntal devices! I think this rendition could be improved if the balance between some of the instruments was better. Sometimes I can barely hear some of the accompanying voices and it seems like you've brought those parts down in loudness deliberately. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Hi again @Marc Deflin! I think this piece has some of the same problems as your recent string quartet piece you posted. There's some octave doubling, but besides that you've conceived of this piece as a collection of solo lines. In order for an orchestra to sound full and idiomatic (if you're trying to write thematically, deriving your basic approach from the classical and romantic eras) then you should use the string orchestra as the skeleton of the piece. I would say to try writing a string orchestra piece, but your recent string piece that you wrote still has the same problems. Maybe try writing a piece only for instruments you can play or have played in the past? Or perhaps writing a piece on the model of another piece? What's your favorite piece of music? Now try writing a piece that's modeled after it but with your own melodic and harmonic ideas. Those are my thoughts - thanks for sharing!
