  1. I Wrote a Sonata for Rach (Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia in cis moll) - CelvinPiano Hello fellow musicians and music lovers, I am an 16 years old composer and I’ve recently finished writing a Sonata in C# minor, dedicated to Rachmaninoff, and I’d love to get some ears on it! If anyone is up for giving it a listen and sharing their thoughts or feedback, I’d really appreciate it. Anything from the composition itself to ideas on performance would be super helpful. And if someone feels inspired to perform it, that would be amazing! I’m open to chatting about that as well, and we could definitely figure something out if it resonates with you. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested, or if you know someone who might be. Can’t wait to hear what you think! Best, Celvin

  2. A three-voice canon at the unison (except for the tenor, which starts an octave lower than the upper voices) with text from the Vulgate as placeholder lyrics. The bass constitutes its own independent line. Specifically, for the text I took the versicles from the Book of John where the famous "Quo vadis?" is uttered by St. Peter before denying Jesus three times. YouTube video link:

  3. Those effects are pre-record improvs that are harder to notate. The violin is just dragging your finger up the strings with no real target notes and the trumpet is just vaguely in time, vaguely on pitch fluttering on that one note and the flute is a strictly chromatic run. I did however prepare the intro/main theme of the piece as sheet music and sent it over discord.

  4. Hello @CelvinPiano, Welcome to the forum! The beginning is a nice waltz with a lovable melody, while the right hand having any interesting hemiola rhythm. I always love C# minor as it!s my favourite key! B.41’s harmony is nice to have. I also love the harmony of the next section and it does sound like Rach in some harmonies like those 7th chords. I like you make the opening return in a low register for variety, but I think you can change the waltz rhythm to something more dramatic! Like using arpeggiated triplets would be great. B.145 gets some really beautiful arpeggios and you should use more! I also like you conversation between high and low voice. I think you can introduce one more contrasting episode before getting to the coda. The coda is quite nice while showing off some pianistic touch. Good job and you are for sure to be talented as you are just 16 years old.Keep going and maybe listen to works here by other members. Thanks for joining us! Henry

  5. Thank you so much @gmm! I am really glad you liked it! My favorite part is also the entrance of the solo violin, specially because of the build-up during the previous measures. And you are totally right! Now that I listened to that section once more, I think your same advice might also apply, not only to m.55, but also (to a lesser degree) to m.53. II will try to modify the final score to add some tension to that final section. Thank you so much for listening and commenting!

  6. Very nice! I think my favorite part is the violin solo near the end - it adds a nice contrast. The only thing I would say is I feel like m. 55 could be a bigger moment. I think more crescendo and a molto rit. here would really make this moment shine and make the sub p chord on beat 3 more impactful. Great job, and thanks for sharing!
