  1. Hello! Here is a short track I recorded for a chapter of my story about three years ago; I thought I’d share it here once I’ve made the score but that hasn’t happened yet, so it might not happen soon, hehe. Track on YouTube. Any comments are appreciated! Unfortunately, I do not know anyone who plays the oboe, nor can I play it myself, so I used the built-in sound in my piano. Let me know if the oboe sounds playable! Edits: 1. I forgot to add that I am mostly happy with this because my priority is how it sounds with the scene it was composed for. However, I think I will change the oboe part from 1:33 to 1:53, because it doesn't highlight the piano and takes away from it instead. 2. If anyone is curious, here is a piano only version.

  2. Here's a one movement symphonic overture, pseudo sonata form. I'll post the score when it becomes legible. I won't pretend, I haven't written for orchestra in a long time, and previous attempts were futile. Any of this is subject to change, so any recommendations from all ages are welcome. I wrote this off and on for months, and honestly haven't touched it in a while since the subject matter was pretty personal and heavy. But, I guess it's time to share the progress. I hope you enjoy

  3. Revision of a fugue I wrote several months ago, transcribed here for two pianos. I found the subject to be somewhat challenging due to its chromatic nature. Had lots of fun with the stretti.

  4. Hello there! Think of this track a journey through space gone wrong. Let me know what you think!

  5. Very cool music. It's dark, cold, ethereal, and very reminiscent of your description. I really like the thin orchestration, the focus on the extreme lows and highs. Welcome to the forum! You should post more here, I dig your style.

  6. This is beautiful. It took me to a place that I forgot I had inside me, so thank you for that. just an idea, but what if you cut out some of the oboe here? Maybe have it echo what the piano is doing since you want the piano to be more in the foreground? Call and answer type thing is what came to mind. Regardless, it's lovely 🙂 Thanks for sharing

  7. Your intuition is legendary. They are related, the subject matter is the same. Spot on with how I felt writing these. Thank you for listening!

  8. Hi @Austenite! I really love this piece! The turbulent beginning gives way to an affable main theme repeated in different somewhat distantly related keys. The piece flows logically and meshes nicely between the turbulent ostinati and fragments of the theme. There is much drama and rising intensity. The only thing that seems out of place for me is the pitched percussion parts which bring me out of the cinematic tone of the piece. Perhaps my choice would be to replace the pitched percussion with piano in a high register. The music definitely could accompany the beginning of a movie or a video game (minus the pitched percussion imo which doesn't really jive). The beautiful 2nd theme which starts around the 5 minute mark is just so wonderful! I can't get enough of this piece because of it. You are a masterful melodist! And the piece is more than adequately developed. There's plenty of orchestration fireworks. The repetitive nature of the piece with frequent changes of key is really conducive to an adventure soundtrack type of setting. There is not a dull moment in the piece and the finale is well prepared by the brass fanfares. Thanks for sharing and great job!

  9. Hello @MantisToboggan and welcome to the forum! Despite being quite dissonant, this piece still has a clear tonal center to me. A tonal center which you seem to subvert by ending on a different chord. I like how you pass around the motif from really high violins to lower cellos. It's the presence of this recurring motif that makes the piece tonal despite the dissonance. This reminds me a bit of Mahler - his Symphony 10 Adagio especially. I've always thought of that piece as having been written on another planet LoL. Wow - you end the piece on a bvi which still sounds pretty conclusive if you ask me. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Just came here to say that this is absolutely lovely. I've already listened to it too much in the last two days; maybe it's my adoration for melancholic music, or fingerstyle guitar, or just the song, but along with being enjoyable to listen to, it's thought-provoking and sent me into some odd contemplations (which of course happens only during my final exams, but I indulge anyway). I also listened to Dandelions (which is super clean, ahh, maybe I'll try it on the guitar after, let's say, 20 years?) and I can't help but wonder if these two songs are related. If they are, they contrast each other well; I feel like the first one is happy and excited, while this is grateful(?) and a little sad. I liked both of course, but this one is especially nice. Oh, and for some reason, I really, really like bar 11. Technical details aside, it's a perfect moment after the introduction, as if it's punctuating that grateful feeling, perhaps. Thank you very much for sharing!

  11. Hi Everyone, here is a first draft of a piece I am working. It is intended as background/atmospheric music and I've tried to make it more of a mood piece. Cheers! Aled Edwards Mood Piano Piece.mp3
