  1. I really like this piece and the humor. I immediately pictured a character moving about and interacting with his/her environment, and think it would make a great soundtrack for a "short" before a full-length animated feature film. Good job!
  2. Well, this is my first attempt at "serious" choral composition. I've done some simple hymn arrangements, but this my first from-scratch piece. I approached the piece by coming up with melodies and motives that expressed the lyrics and then did a lot of experimenting with supporting harmonies and key signatures. In the first half Micah is mourning all the corruption and impending destruction of Israel. The second half expresses faith in God's forgiveness and deliverance. The piece opens in Gm. In the pick-up to m.30 I go directly into Am without modulation. This Am section reflects the anguish of knowing the people were responsible for their own demise, kind of an inner tug-of-war. M.55 begins the transition through several chords & parallel 4ths as it leads to the climax. M.77 opens with D major. I chose a major key to reflect Micah's decision to trust God no matter what happens, sort of an inner resolution. The song finally closes with Bb major. I know some of the harmony still needs a bit of work. Every time I listen I think, "Shoot, that needs fixing too." Anyway, I have some questions, one of them being, do you think the individual parts are singable, or did I sacrifice singability for harmony? BTW, I noticed the basses are hard to hear on the Am section. Is there a way to just replace the current recording or do I have to create a new post? Thanks. Micah 7
  3. Maybe I didn't try the low G (it was late at night when I was finishing it). It does sound better. The second "pizz" was just an oversight. Thanks.
  4. Yeah. I tossed that "D" around a bit. I tried both B and G, but wasn't quite happy with it because the violin hits the low G in the same range. I want the violin's G to really stand out, and not fight with the piano for the limelight. Maybe I need to hear a live performance because sometimes it's difficult to tell just listening to a midi version.
  5. Here is a simple violin solo with piano accompaniment. I wrote it for my elementary-level violin students. The pedagogical foci are playing in G major with both R.H. and L.H. pizzicato. I thought it would be fun for my first composition post. I'm mostly interested in hearing how you think the piano accompaniment fits the solo. The Popcorn Party
