I know it's been a while since someone has posted on this one, but besides all the very apt points already listed, there is one major one I think has been overlooked: PAGETURNS. A lot of composers forget this very important bit, especially (for example) when a string section carries on through six or seven pages without respite. Unless the composer intended those crucial sections to die down since half the players need to frantically switch to the next section while the other half try desperately to remember what is on the next page. String sections have the biggest culprits, methinks, mostly because there are more stand partners and most people use them as the main focus for melodies and structure.... (And yes, I'm guilty of it too)
  2. I wrote this quite a while ago, mostly as a study in choral sounds. Originally it was to have "ahs" and "oohs" rather than words, but somehow I was talked into putting words to it.Original title: "Tranquility", new title "Love is As a Flow'r". Technically the piece is not finished, but that's only because I haven't completed the lyrics. Suggestions would be helpful - but mostly I have to sit back and work on it again and I'm sure it'll get done.Hopefully Finale's basic MIDI sounds can do it a little justice while you listen. Enjoy! Love is As a Flow'r
  3. Agreed, bkho - anybody here would ace it. AP Theory was pretty awesome, though only the first semester for me was actual learning, where the second half was learning how to take the test. Kinda cheap, but considering how well trained my ear was already after having played violin and (admittedly substandard) composing, my 5 was a cinch. Coulda sworn I missed a lot more than I did though.... ;)
