I composed "On a Snowy Afternoon" early february this year, 2010, at Wellesley. That day, I was in my school's practice room, working on a few newly-assigned pieces for my professor. While practicing intently, I heard some gentle noises outdoor and looked out the window: it was snowing. Perhaps I was feeling a little sentimental that day. But for some reason, the sight before me hit me hard and inspired me to compose something: something that would capture... the rhythm of nature, a sense of solitude, melancholy, tranquility, frustration, the fleeting nature of life, the absence of order/predictability, and other complex and seemingly conflicting/unrelated feelings and elements on a snowy afternoon...
