  1. I have to agree that the MIDI does not really do justice to the piece at hand here. If you posted an actual recording, I believe you would receive much more accurate feedback... especially in regards to the style of solo viola. It is easier to mask the loss of real world representation with a larger ensemble, but as many users have said here it feels a little lacking - which is not the piece being a bad piece, it's just the MIDI. Unfortunately many of the approaches you are going for are lost to the listener because they will not comprehend the timbre you are trying to achieve with electronic representation alone. That being said, this is a piece that needs a recording uploaded to be recognized to its fullest. I think as a virtuoistic piece it contains a lot of character and seeing how rare viola works are nowadays, it is a very appreciate addition to the modern repertoire.
  2. I also think regarding some of the comments here that 'personal tastes' should not be applicable to the quality of the work. I don't think it needs a different medium or an expanded medium, and again because of the MIDI representation it shouldn't be judged as something that will not come out well through the performance aspect. Do not forget that instrumentalist interpretation is another aspect that can define a piece and the quality of the musician you have to play can make or break the piece.
  3. The Bells is an art song set to Edgar Allen Poe's poem The Bells, the first in a series of four poems.Unfortunately, my sound file for live performance is in .m4a, and it is not uploadable, so I am uploading a synthesized MP3 version instead. :( The Bells
  4. @MathWizard: It actually is tranposed; I wrote using the "No Key/Atonal" key signature with Sibelius in order to create an easier transposing process. Thank you for the compliment and advice! @Heckel: Thanks a lot! Which parts in the piano sound overwritten? I also feel that I should change the instrument, after all the feedback I've gotten from my professor and here. I was thinking either the violin or the oboe... I don't know, what do you see?
  5. Crystalline for SATB choir, solo clarinet, and piano. Lyrics by me, Kristen Krikorian, and Patrick MartinMP3 is a bit outdated :P Crystalline
  6. This Fanfare is a triumphant work for trumpet, trombone, timpani and percussion. It features the use of quintal harmony, accompanied by a busy timpani line. Sections of mixed meter, stacked chords, and homophonic texture switching to monophonic texture establish excitement throughout the work. This was my first work for this instrumentation written and it was written in Spring of 2010.PS. The timpani rolls are terrible in this MP3, so I'd suggest keeping your volume down. :S Sorry! Fanfare for Brass and Percussion
