  1. thanks Dr. Pangloss I thought it turned out well for my first attempt at anything sung. About the accidentals thing, I like to write my pieces without a key signature, so as I'm writing, I don't feel so restricted. It ended up being very tonal and mostly simple diatonic chords, with exceptions, but I hate to feel limited. Writing without a key signature works for me, so I can write whatever I feel like, and do whatever I feel at the time. I think I understand about 56 and 57 and I may do just that. Also, I think 69 isn't a very fitting measure, I will try your idea tonight. Thank you. Do you have any pieces I could listen to/review?
  2. Seems to me like we're borrowing triads from the minor scale. like.. C | Ab | Bb | C E | C | D | E G | Eb | F | G Which makes sense, becuase if you put a melody on top of it, I would think normally you would use the minor scale. Or you could use a: C,Ab,Eb,Bb progression very standard pop progression although the key centre is normally minor thats my take on it
  3. Hello all, First off, happy new year :) I wish the best This is a new piece, my first time working with choral music, and it was fun. I was asked if I could write something for a friends dad, who is an avid Christian music person. So, this is what I came up with. It was short notice, I only had a few days, and I do have a real life as well as a musical one, but I think it turned out well for just a fun project. Just a few quick notes : This was recorded by a computer microphone in my basement, I wrote it to be preformed, the recording was just for fun. I was told this friend of my mom's was a soprano, and so I wrote some upper soprano range. However, I found out she was an alto. Oops :) Enough words. Here's the music. 4. Alright, well for one, RPG Maker is hardcore  I used to play with it. I'm at school now, but I'll check it out when I get home. btw, got a link to the game? :P
  5. :P cool
  6. so you tried the channel volume already? just go into sound forge/audacity whatever and up the volume. You dont' want it 'distorted' clipping. from wikipedia: Clipping (audio) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Clipping is a form of distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven, which happens when it attempts to increase voltage or current beyond its threshold. just amplify/adjust volume bit by bit, and watch the wave file, if it starts to get close to the edge of the available space, that means you're close to clipping, and don't have much 'headroom'. Its always better have more headroom than clipping.
  7. i'm not a sibelius guy can it use soundfonts? Accessories - Sound Blaster, Portable Media Centers, MP3 Player, Speaker, Storage, Web Cameras looks pretty dang good to me or search hammersound
  8. sure: scottmeschke@gmail.com (email) grandhavenscott on yahoo/aol messenger
  9. I'm betting you have automation there. ... yup... go to 'current project'(in the sidebar) --> then automation, and see what you have on that pattern... picture included
  10. Sorry.. forgot to mention that its a woodwind choir. With more than one player on a part, so in my mind it was ok to have some parts that require div. I feel stupid for not mentioning that, I should edit the score with a subtitle of 'woodwind choir' or something like that.
  11. sorry, didn't mean to dp.. files oh, and anyone have any reason why when i start playback in finale the dynamics move over a beat or so?? woundedheart.MUS woundedheart.MID
  12. Hey all. How's it going? Well, this is a sort-of just for fun/ maybe portfolio purposes arrangement of Heart Wounds(which is part of 2 Elegiac Melodies) by Edvard Grieg. I think its a beautiful piece, and thought it would be a good practice of orchestration. Questions: Any instrumentation problems such as impossible notes, hard/out of range notes, hard dynamic levels, etc. Is the balance ok(not in finale of course, but if this were played by real people) And any suggestions, comments, critisism welcome. Oh, and i'll probobly edit and put up the 2nd movement (the better one in my opinion) at some point. Thanks for the time, Scott edit* as pointed out by Qccowboy there is occasionally polyphony in one part. This is a sextet yes, but it is a choir. Multiple people on each part, maybe 2 or 3. I should've mentioned that.
  13. how would you get 'clipping' by lack of enough memory? i'm not sure thats the correct terminology
  14. AGREED :D
  15. For me, I think it helps convey expression. No, not jumping around, or moving esscesively, but i've met some good players who move around quite a bit. 'Specially Jazz players. :) I think it can get ridiculous, but i think you should do whatever makes you MAKE MUSIC the best. I think its similar to playing something very sad, and really thinking sad, really trying to express it. Its the human touch, expression that computers can't mimic, not even the very best of the best. And i think thats becuase its not something writen down, or can be explained. If they want to put their soul into the song, so be it, as long as it doesn't detract from the music, and even if it does, who says that music is meant for the audience. I dont play music to preform it, i play it for me. There's lots of music that's written for the sake of music, not the audience. If i get some joy out of it, i can do it however i want, I'm the one who's playing the music, not the people/person watching. sorry, thats really long... i'm way too longwinded :D
