My name is Derek Fiechter. I have a passion to compose music that is both unique and awe-inspiring. My specialty is in creating songs that have a distinct melody that people can sing or hum. I've been composing music for over ten years now, but there's still so much to know. Over the years, I've found out that it's not so much composing music as it is listening to different music. Just like an expert writer needs to be read many types of books, so a musical composer needs to listen to many different styles of music. This is what I try to do. I try to listen to anything from Celtic, to Japanese pop, to Instrumental, to New Age, to Ambient, to Middle Eastern music. The more I hear these songs, the more I can begin to pick up on the different ways the songs are created and what makes each style unique. Still, this isn't all I do. I also study music theory. Having both of these techniques at my disposal, I will continue to get better and better each day.
