  1. Oh right so the strings are just very high notes? Do you know how I would achieve the effects in Sibelius 5.
  2. Hi, I've always wondered what the technical terms are for the following techniques heard in strings and brass instruments. The first technique is used in strings at the extreme of their ranges: extreme strings snippet: listen online And the brass 'modulating pitch' technique: brass snippet: listen online I would like to ask the following questions about both techniques: How do the performers achieve the effect? What is the technical term for the technique (if any)? and finally, How would I, as a composer, indicate to the performer to play these effects in terms of score markings (basically what do the performers see on the score that tell them to do the techniques) Hope I explained myself ok. Thanks alot
  3. I think that I-IVm is probably my favourite.
  4. Hi, I've looked around the internet but I can't seem to find an answer. When looking syncopated rhythms in music, I notice that sometimes the composer, instead of writing a crotchet may write 2 tied quavers whereas In other off beat places a crotchet has been used. Could someone help clarify when tied quavers should be substituted for crotchets? (Not specifically crotchets and tied quavers but maybe quavers and tied semi quavers etc etc) Thanks Fish
  5. thanks very much!
  6. Well you just proved that as long as someone has an ear for music, regardless of their knowledge of music theory, they can create superb pieces! Well done! Sounds excellent! In future i'd suggest composing the notes and stuff in Finale and tarting it up in Sonar.
  7. Sorry about that ^^ For printing purposes, I can just use Insert Symbol. Could you send me an image of what a tremolo looks like please?
  8. Thanks but can you put plugins in Finale Allegro?
  9. Is there a symbol in finale I can use that will trill up 4 semitones (eg: G to Bb)?
  10. Fantastic. It could literally be out of a film. Out of interest, what software did you use to make it?
  11. Hi, When I first purchased Finale I experimented by creating the following piece. It is very short and needs work in areas. It was is very simple (composition wise) and isn't half as good as some of the masterpieces round here but It's original (by that I mean not copied) and I thought it sounded quite good. :) Also, Could someone suggest a title please. Compressed MP3 File (not a big file). solo piano peice.mp3
  12. Well that's alright then :) . Here's the MUS file: PutStuff.com - Free File Hosting - city_sleeps_comp.zip
  13. Thanks for your comments. I felt that some parts lacked rhythmic variation (especially the drum part as I am not very familier with drums). I completly see where you are coming from regarding the pyramid at 1:36. You'll notcie I tried to create some jazz style clashing notes in the piano solo but failed a bit :-(. After listening to it for the 10th time I can see that sections don't blend into each other very well (ie: you can tell i've just compied and pasted some parts then added something different!). It could definitly do with some work but it was a little bit experimental to get me used to Finale. I'll send you the score. In .mus or PDF or something?
  14. Hi, I'll be honest I havn't worked on this piece for very long but I worked on it alot in that time. It's for a jazz ensemble and, erm, well tell me what you think (the audio file provided was completly composed in Finale Allegro 2005 but edited in seperate software - try to listen to the tune and ignore any bad sound quality). I think HUman Playback takes dynamics a bit over the top so you may need to adjust your speaker volume. Throughout the piece. Enjoy! Post feedback please!
