  1. Hey Serge, I haven't uploaded a score because I only have it hand written on A3 paper and that won't fit in my scanner haha. Thanks for the comments, although I think that removing the fat could just be a matter of taste rather than actual musical purpose. I did try to elongate this work as much as I could using the 9 notes to the endth degree, and I do understand where you are coming from, but I don't feel like it goes on for too long, personally. Anyways, thanks for commenting anyway Nick
  2. So has anyone listened to it yet? :)
  3. YAYAYAYAY RECORDING FINALLY UPLOADED!!!!
  4. WHY THE HECK WON'T IT UPLOAD?! I'm even using Internet Explorer?!?!?! It's an MP3 - and it says 'complete' but then i come here...and there is NOTHING HERE! UGH!
  5. This is the first piece of music I have ever had premiered by a musician that wasn't...me. This very talented 1st year clarinetist, Nathan Lam, performed my piece for solo Bb Clarinet in May 2009. He did a fantastic job considering the complexity of this piece, my poor clarinet writing and his 2-3 week preparation. He actually improvised a lot of it, and probably around 3:00-30 this can really be noticed. I do not have the score in finale/pdf form just yet because I had hand written it on A3 paper...so that's another reason why I commend him - my handwriting is shocking. The piece is called Ten because it is based on the bible story about the lost coin. The opening melodic phrase symbolise the 9 coins that are in the woman's possession and throughout the piece she frantically tries to search for the 10 coin, which, btw, she finds at the last note: G (sounds A). I tried to capture the emotion/frenzy of searching for something that is lost, and the ending phrase (the falling flute-like arpeggios in a major-ish figure) is kind of like the celebration of finding the tenth coin. Of course, you can interpret this anyway you want, and perhaps one day I'll upload the score, but I only just rediscovered the recording, so I thought I'd upload it PS I lol'd at the sneeze too hahaha. Finally, YC has fixed the upload feature. Thanks! Ten - Solo Bb Clarinet
  6. There we go =) file uploaded!
  7. well, two different contrasting comments =) that's wonderful to hear! Thank you both for your comments...and I will be very sure to keep working on it. I do need to step away from the piano when I compose though, because I find that I am falling into the same style I'm used to: early 20th century music...it's when I'm away from the piano that I can hear something completely new! The slow section in the Whole Tone Scale at the end actually was inspired by George Crumb's Voice of the Whale, and you'll hear quite a bit of it coming through those few short bars, but it was written away from the piano, and that's when I was able to hear all three instruments beautifully singing together. I will confess though, because of the deadline's approach, i did a bit of Mass-edit-copy =( I know, I'm ashamed! Hence why I will be changing it a fair bit ;) Thank you both for your comments though =)
  8. Part of what will hopefully later become 'The Trees' suite...pieces inspired by different trees, all chamber music. Again, don't know what to say lol...I'm not one to really describe my own work...not in writing anyway. Comments? Suggestions?Oh and again, don't freak out about the chords in the winds too :P gotta love the frightened looks people give when they are introduced to multiphonics :P love em!EDIT: Hmm seems my adobe PDF maker is failing me a bit. I'll upload the score tomorrow. Jacaranda - The Trees
  9. Taken from the poem by Walt Whitman, this piece was clearly inspired by none other than Stravinksy. I don't know what else to say...Oh and it's not finished, but as folios come and go, i just quickly ended it because I ran out of time. So suggestions and critiques are welcome =) A Noiseless Patient Spider
  10. So this is another one of those pieces I composed in a few hours, and again, Finale doesn't do the playback much justice. Again, I don't think I'll go back and work on this again, but any feedback/comments for my future prelude works would be appreciated =)And yes, it is playable ;) Lento
  11. This is the first part of a piano trio that has still got another year or so in the making...because I'm a procrastinator. Yes. I admit it. That's the first part to breaking the cycle...right?I actually really hate from about 15 onwards because I feel as if it's not where I wanted to go. There is so much more I could have done with this piece, and I think I let my quickening folio deadline and finale write this for me. Don't judge! It's happened to you too right? So I will be getting this performed probably second half of the year, but I will need to really immerse myself in serious string music study! As a pianist, that's the easy part...but to give the strings important roles in the music is the hard part :\ Anyways, as much as I hate about 80% of the piece, I think as a first movement, it's really quite pleasant and enjoyable =) Fame - "I yearn for it..."
  12. Part A of a...well I actually wouldn't call it a Tone Poem...but a musical portrayal of the Valley of Dry Bones found in Ezekial in the Bible. I'm sorry to clean score buffs out there whose eyes are currently burning at the state of my score. The proper and completed score is in a hard copy in the marking room of the university...and so this is the only version I have on me at the moment. This piece needs a LOT of work...oh and don't freak out and troll me on my 'chords in the woodwind section'...those are my Multiphonic markings...but again, the final copy is much tidier and I think even simplifies the way they look. I haven't seen the score for about 3 months. The Valley of Bones - Part A
  13. Okay, so I'm a little annoyed at the new process for uploading scores/music, but meh, it looks funky, and I'll get used to it I guess. Tepidamente I wrote this short prelude in a few hours last year, and no that's not me showing off my 'fast writing prowess' but rather, just showing the kind of simpleness of the piece. I had very limited material and just based the piece of that, like any other composer. There's nothing much to say about it, and I'm not really asking for tips on what I could change...because I don't plan on working on it again ;) Just let me know what you think of it, and I would love to get it performed by whoever wants to give it a go. It is possible to play btw :P the MP3 just makes it sound ridiculous -_-' finale still does a fantastic job of failing me.
  14. definately fantastic. it's all i can say.
