Something I heard a vocal professor tell a student has helped me. The student was practicing for an audition in front of a bunch of us in a concert hall, and he was really nervous. The professor told him that "no one but us and your parents would care if you died right now." I know that sounds harsh, but he meant it in an overall idea. It was his way of saying not to take his work too seriously. That only a minuscule percent of the planet was paying attention. None of this really matters...but it does, but it doesn't. And this:
