Thank you both for your insight. I will purchase Jeppesen's book and it would be wonderful if you could direct me to the newer texts as well. I will check out imslp for more guidance. The piece is set up in a sort of chorus semi chorus (plus individual soloists derived from the semi chorus). I wanted a way to make the non chorus parts stand out from the chorus parts. Its just a bit samey at the moment. I have looked into verse anthems and the like for inspiration, but it is very difficult to separate the two within the limits of the period.
  3. I am composing a Latin mass in the renaissance style, and I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips about staying true to the period. I have listened to and sung countless pieces from the time, but I still don't think I'm getting it right.
  4. I have sung choral music old and new, and I have found that I don't really like the new stuff. I was wondering if I was alone in this. If anyone can recommend a modern choral composer that has a more traditional style, I would be thankful.
  5. Greater Love John Ireland O Quam Gloriosum Victoria Let All Mortal Flesh Bairstow Overture of The Dream Mendelssohn The Weston Wind Mass Tavener I'm sure there are some others.
  6. I have to agree with froglegs, All Things Bright and Beautiful (Rutter) is pretty bad. The Lord Bless You and Keep You is equally as bad. I have had to sing those pieces quite a lot.
  7. This is a difficult question, but I will have to go will Bairstow.
