  1. Ooo, I like the sound of this. The chord progression and everything is awesome, but like Meiser said, that tenor part can get a bit crazy. Either way, fantastic work. I'd like to see what ideas you have for the text when you're finished with that.
  2. For a battle theme, I find the build up just slightly slow for my tastes before it falls into the B part. Other than that, very solid battle theme. I like.
  3. I could easily see this in some sort of video or animation. It sounds solid and the instruments all seem to produce a color which works. The explosion of sound which proceeds after the silence around 3:52 is awesome. However, I find some of the notes on the harp that seem somewhat out of place (Around 2:45 and 2:58), but that's just me being ridiculously nit-picky. Very enjoyable listen, thanks for sharing.
  4. It sounds like a good start. I particularly like the part with the piano uses triplets close to the end. I look forward to hearing an improved version of this. As for choice in software, I just have this to say: Do your research on which software you want to get, otherwise you might find yourself using a program you are not too fond of like yours truly .
  5. I really like the sound of this. The Duduk sounds fantastic along with the string samples that were used. Really nice!
  6. I have the full version of Finale 2007.
  7. I've looked everywhere and I can't seem to figure out how to put a ritardando in Finale that will affect playback. Does anyone know where it is or how to do it?
  8. Thanks for the help guys, I've got it the best I've can :P
  9. I recently purchased Finale 2007 and have composed a piano piece using Garritan Sounds Orchestra (which was included), but it seems that the piano piece recorded far too soft. I've tried modifying the playback settings and volume controls, but they seem to have little effect. I've tried using Audacity to increase its volume, but it just leaves the piece distorted. I've put in dynamics, but even without them the piece is hard to hear. Is there a setting in Finale to directly increase playback volume?
  10. Mont: Yes, I would love the mp3 of it, thankies. And thank you so much for the encouragement! Yes, I do plan to get training in this, because, to be honest, I'm curious about music, very curious. I want to know a lot about what I'm doing. It's good to follow what comes to my head, but it would be more meaningful I think if I knew what I was doing. My goal is to able to write orchestral scores and actually make sense of them. At the moment, I don't even know the ranges of most instruments, let alone which instruments go well with one another. But I'm so willing to learn these things. I don't want to be left in the dark while I write music. Once again, thanks for your encouragement. And thank you to everyone who's giving me input, I truly appreciate it! -K. Solii
  11. That's the thing...I'm not sure what the lyrics are. I have an idea in my head, granted, but until I write more on my story and I think a little harder, I don't have set lyrics for it yet.
  12. It seems that some folks are having trouble opening the file...If I could, I'd turn it into a MIDI file...but Notepad is evil and won't let me do it, sorry guys. I'd appreciate it if someone could do that for me. -K. Solii
  13. Mont: Thank you so much for your input, but...uh...I don't exactly understand some of the things you're talking about. I don't know much about music theory. Granted I'm in an AP course for it ,but we're not as that far into it as I would like to be. I made this piece from my head not necessarily following "rules." It just...came. ...I need to get to college and take those theory courses... The only thing I thought about when writing the piece were the ranges of the voice parts and the way it sounded. If I could, I would've written it and thought about those types of things. But, ah, I'll learn about those things in time, I'm sure. I'm still in high school, darn it, so I won't be graduating for another year. So, if you can give me the title of some kind of book or something I could read up on this information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much for your comments, and I'll put the ones I understand in consideration. -K. Solii Edit: And about the piano, I do not know how to change that to voices and save it, Finale Notepad drives me nuts.
  14. This is a piece I've been working on for a while, it's my first complete composition...ever. It's a rough draft, but I'm quite pleased with the results. It was done with Finale Notepad. It is for SATB Chorus, a capella. When I was trying to think about what I could compose for, I decided to make my own story and write music to it. In a sense, it's an introduction to the story and also my steps into music composition. Will I compose more music related to this story? Yes I will, but only after I work on writing more of the story so I can get a feel for how I should write the music for it. As for information about the story in general...well...that's my secret for the time being. I'm not exactly sure where the project will lead to, but I am quite excited about it. Anyways, I'll accept any criticism anyone has to offer. Enjoy. -K. Solii Edit: Oh, and one more thing. I haven't put any words to it yet, but I plan to once I find a text I like. Aeterna Introit.MUS
  15. To MoL: Yeah, that is why I'm getting the full deal. I don't like restrictions like that. To Everyone that responded: Thanks for your input guys, I think I'm going to go with Finale 2007 as my decision. I'll post my first work that I've done in notepad later. Thanks a lot guys.
