  1. Thanks for having a look at my piece. It's longer than some violin solos but it's also shorter than some others, and with my knowledge of the rep I was thinking that it perhaps wasn't long enough. I really didn't expect it to grow to be so substantial a piece. Maybe I was just subconsciously overcompensating for my perceived lack of skill as a viola/violin player. :D I'm glad that the "narrative" I placed in the piece seems to be welcome. I'm not used to putting so much text in my compositions, but I guess with the somewhat more open-ended style of this piece it works well to help communicate my ideas. Thanks again.
  2. This started out as a flute piece and eventually turned into a violin piece. I think it's pretty easy to tell when I made the switch, which I chose to do for two reasons: One, I wanted to see what it would sound like on violin, and two, I had the opportunity to have a violin piece read by a professional who was visiting my school. I'm still editing it a bit as far as technical and performance details go. Rhapsody for the Cult of the Sun
  3. Thanks for responding! The time signatures in the beginning were basically arbitrarily created by the conductor here. I had originally written the first 4 measures with no time signature at all, but to make actual performance work better we added the 6/4 time, which makes sense if you group every six notes in the clarinet line into a sextuplet which makes 1 beat. What the percussion and harp are doing at the end is basically taking those pitches which I put in boxes and improvising on them for the duration of the measure. It makes a sound kind of like wind chimes or mark tree but just on definite pitches. Thanks again for your comments. I really appreciate it!
  4. Last year, I was asked to compose a piece for my university's symphony orchestra, and this the piece that I finished for that project. We are in the process of rehearsing it right now, and I'm happy to say that it is going very well, though all these little technical considerations that I've encountered during the process have been frustrating at times. Nevertheless, Here is my piece, Solidary Anthem. The score is pretty much constantly undergoing revision, and the audio is a tiny bit outdated (in particular you may notice the jingly sounds near the end are not present), however, the files which I am uploading are for the most part faithful representations of the piece. Thanks for checking it out!Solidary Anthem for Orchestra Solidary Anthem for Orchestra
  5. Thanks for the comments! I feel that this could be longer as well.

    Unusual April

Hi, thanks for listening. I really seem to have a habit of being too short with things... I'll keep working on that. The sounds I used were the Garritan sounds that come with Finale, but I processed them through another program. This file does use solo strings, but the piece was actually written for a small string orchestra, harp, flute, and clarinet. I do agree that the solo strings sound good, though. I have now uploaded the score. Thanks again.
  7. Thank you for listening! Me getting a C was probably my theory professor's way of keeping a composition student in check, haha. My earlier drafts had a big X marked through the page. I had to keep it short and generally restrained or I probably would have done worse. I've added the score if you'd like to take a look. Thanks again.

    Unusual April

Inspired by April snow in Tennessee, which is unusual by my standards. For strings, flute, clarinet, and harp. Unusual April
  9. This was supposed to be part three of a study in asymmetrical meters. I can't say if that will still happen. Asymmetry Mvt. III
  10. This was written for a theory assignment. I got a C on it, but I like the piece. Passacagaila
  11. This is a short piece originally for piano, that was re-arranged for a small string orchestra. Sehnsucht for String Orchestra
  12. Ok, then. I'll see what I can do.
  13. Ha, well, I suppose it was the first thing that came to mind in relation to the actual imagery in the trailer... Like, the main character never spoke, and many portions of it were just so quiet.
  14. So, this piece was a part of my first attempt at really scoring anything. I picked out a video game trailer and got to work. :) Silence hi-fi URL: Start Player lo-fi URL: Start Player Any thoughts?
