I wandered here via a google search musing if Mozart would have liked the blues. Much erudition later, including these helpful takes on here ... i would submit
A conductor driving an orchestra, live, expressing a written piece with variations on feel and tempo is imho as much a “jazz” performance as a trio swinging hard. Its why “popular” melodies have “hooks”... even classical pieces.
The prevailing “ear”, scales and harmonies, rhythms and tempo vary across cultures, but music is universal.
I think Mozart and Hendrix are having interesting conversations....
