  1. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I am glad you liked it!!! It is indeed Scotland the Brave in the end! Good listening skills!!! Nothing like a familiar sound to bring it all together in the end. Thanks -Joe Poch
  2. Thanks for the Comments!!! The announcement is added in by recording me in and then adding delay and distortion to it to get it that cheap sound system sound. The samples are from EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold XP Pro. I actually cannot change the reverb because the sounds are pre-recorded with the reverb, unlike Vienna instruments (Unless there is a cool secret I don't know!) The bagpipes are from a collection called Celtic Instruments by Big Fish Audio. I am going to raise the level of the pipes in the music. You are completely right that the low G should be a natural! THANKS A TON... Thant has been changed also!!!!! Good Catch!!! My understanding is that the pipes were first made in the scale as they are notated, just out of tune (oops... gotta do what you gotta do on a budget) and it stuck as tradition. Ethnic instruments can be weird sometimes. The horn can only be increased in volume by increasing the gain now. The samples are maxed out in velocity to give that effect of a fanfare. I can add a horn part, I just really don't know what I would do with it for the whole song. The song however, is written for 2 horns so there can be some volume added in that way because the .mp3 only has a solo horn patch. I noticed the flat signs and have since taken them out. As to the hairpin, I will probably have it this way in the part that is published for the player, but I feel the conductor's score looks cleaner with just the word "cresc." but what do you think? DO it!!! I will even help record it if you need some samples!!! I love their sounds and would like to see it combined with your ideas!!! Thanks, -Joe Poch
  3. Yea!! There sound can be moving, but not when you are close to them! My understanding is they are an instrument that were made to be heard over the sounds of battle to give commands in the old days. They just really scream!
  4. Boy can the bagpipes cut through the brass!!! They are so loud and contrast so much with every other instrument that you hear everything from them. Sometimes it can just be too much and there is no way to cut it down... Thats why I only have 4 -5 bagpipes. I agree though, I will turn the bagpipes up a few notches in the demo. Thanks for the great comments!!!! -Joe Poch
  5. I have changed the .mp3 and the sheet music files to fix several issues with the orchestration. In the .mp3 I also added an announcement (so it was not just dead noise during the drum roll) and a delay to the instruments to make them sound more "live". Check it out again: Free file hosting by Savefile.com Please feel free to make a comment. I am not very hard headed so if you say something needs to change... I will probably change it. -Joe Poch
  6. This is a Fanfare I composed for brass and bagpipes. It has a spot in the middle for announcing the festival or ceremony. The score and mp3 are here: Free file hosting by Savefile.com I have one question. The Tuba is written one octave higher than it sounds right? For example after I compose in my sequencer and bring the midi into sibelius, I have to transpose the tuba up one octave right? I did this here as you can see in the score but you will hear in the mp3 the tuba is actually one octave lower. Thanks, Joe Poch
  7. I use Sibelius. Don't just type "ff" for expression text. Instead type "CTRL - f" twice. This should make the text look as expression text should.
  8. Sampling is quite an easy process. It will take some time to make something sound good, but it is quite easy. The first thing to know about samples is that they are created based off of the articulation (legato, staccato, ect.). With that being said you can not just link a midi file for an instrument in to a single sample and expect it to sound good. You must break the instruments notes up in to which kind of articulation is expected to be played. The way you connect a midi file with the samples is by using the sample player as a plug in. The most common plug in "standard" is VST. This is just how the sampler communicates with another piece of software "Sibelius 5, Finale, or most sequencers". For example you would bring the plug in into your sequencer and then connect each "midi instrument line" to an instrument in the sampler. Then when you play your song the samples will be generated and will sound. After tweaking and setting everything just right you will here a very professional sounding recording. I hope this helps. I really am new to sampling also but I can say that it is really easy processes and if you dedicate some time to making the recording you will get some great results!!! If you go East West, you will not be disappointed. -Joe Poch
  9. I have been looking at the comparison charts and I don't really know what alot of the stuff is even. The only thing I really use sequencers for so far is to sample my music. Price is not a huge issue if the software is going to have things that make my work flow faster. Thats the only reason (that I know of) for switching to a sequencer. If a sequencer has features that cost a lot more, I am ok with that because if it helps productivity then it will save me in the long run. Also I am very much a "vertical" composer and I dont always know what an instrument will be doing all the way through a piece (Im just not that good enough). So I would like tools that I can learn that will help me to do this efficiently in a sequencer. So based on that what is the word on which sequencer I should go with?
  10. I am PC based. The other thing is I am used to composing on paper or in Sibelius so I think the score feature of cubase would help me make a transition. Is it worth it to go up to Cubase Studio or would the lower SE version be ok? What other programs are recomended. I really want it to have the capability to compose with video just to try practising with video. Thanks!!!
  11. I have decided to make the leap from using Sony Acid to going with a more industry standard sequencer. My two choices are pro tools m-powered or cubase (don't know which version, give me hints). I read yesterday that Pro Tools does not support VST which means I could not use my EWSO Gold XP Pro. If this is true then I definitely don't want that. However, maybe there is a way around that. What do you guys think?
  12. I liked it a lot.. Gets boring but as said before it would be perfect for the music at the start of a DVD that carries the theme from the movie. Very nice orchestration. What all did you use in the recording process?
  13. So I need to write a fanfare for the opening of a ceremony that includes bagpipes. I am extremely stuck. I think I have sat down 20 times to write this, never get anything I like and end up throwing everything away and walking off in frustration. I need suggestions on what I can do to make the paper say what my head does. Anyone know of a place I can find fanfares to analyze? (With Sheet Music) Any suggestions will be a big help. Thanks!!!!!!!!
  14. I saw and read your post with the link. Its great you helped him. I am just saying that it was uncalled for to call his question stupid. I am sure there is not a person in the world who thinks there is no difference between the different versions of EWSO. And I am pretty sure you really did infer he was just looking for info not really wondering if there was ANY difference. Anyways it does not matter he got what he was looking for.
  15. I understand he may not be wanting to by them. That does not mean he is not asking what the differences between them are. Anyways. I love the package!!!! EW is the best. Anyone who is wondering which package to buy, it is well worth it for EASTWEST! THANKS!!!
