  1. This is a great piece! The melody develops nicely, and there are some nice moments with the harmony. It's short and sweet and develops to a nice climax in the middle. Well done. I have a few suggestions. 1. At measure 46, when you bring back the original theme in the winds, you have a nice counter melody in the strings, but it kinda just stops a few measures in. I think you could definitely expand that counter melody out all the way until measure 54 or further. The counter melody adds personality and variation. 2. On measure 61, when you have this build up to the end, the lower strings are still in pizzicato. You might wanna have them bow that measure, because since you're building up volume, you'll be able to get more power from bowing than plucking. It'll help build to that grand finale (but that's just my opinion) Overall, I think that is a great piece and you did a great job!
  2. First off, I absolutely LOVE the theme you have. It's a beautiful and very charming melody! You have that late classical/early romantic flair and it's expressed beautifully. I rather enjoyed listening to it. As for criticism: 1. Since the horns and clarinets are transposed, their parts should have different key signatures. This is for the sake of proper scoring. 2. While I love the melody, I do think that it's repeated a bit much. I think that at measure 28, after the strings and other instruments have had the melody, you could move on to a variation or development of the theme and build off of that. The reason is because, since you have such a charming melody, you wouldn't want the listener to hear it too much and get tired of it. You'd want to present it just enough, so that it's that much more satisfying when you bring it back. You added some nice variation when you altered the melody after the repeat, but I wouldn't advise reusing the same melody for an entirely different section. It just keeps the piece from being stagnant. Overall, I think that this is a wonderful piece with a brilliant melody and harmony! I think you can expand on it. 😄 Great work!
  3. This is a delightful composition! The melodic line is very stable and easy to follow and the harmony is classically inspired, but with some nice surprises! I love your use of chromaticism. Great work! 😄
  4. I'm not as well versed on the more contemporary style of composition, but what I can say is that it was a very enjoyable and colorful piece!
  5. This is an extremely charming piece. The first theme is simplistic (not a bad thing) and straight forward. I hear a lot of early classical influence. Some early classical- some early Haydn or Leopold Mozart. I liked the transition to minor for the second theme. It created some nice contrast. I do think that it would have been nice not to have the repeated noted in the bassoons during the minor section, because we get the repeated notes in the major section. The only other critique is the fact that in the minor section, you used D#'s. It's more accurate to use Eb's when in G minor because it's a primarily flat key. Overall, this is very enjoyable piece and you have real talent. Keep up the great work! 😄
  6. You fit a good range of mood and texture into such a short piece. I liked the interaction between the clarinet and the cello. They juggled the melodic line nicely. Also, you have a nice and unique use of harmony. My critiques will are: 1. It sounded like you had two unique themes (one at the very begining, and then at the Allegro in measure 9) it would be nice to hear more development on one or both of those themes, because they could be very strong melodies. They do stop rather abruptly. 2. The section in the middle where the piano takes over with the 16th note runs, it sound a bit empty with the clarinet and cello just sorta stopping. You could probably add in some pizzicato with the cello or staccato with the clarinet, to back up the piano just as the piano backs up the clarinet and cello. But those are just my thoughts, take them as you will. Very nice piece overall and I look forward to hearing more!
