What minor key to use for the Trio of my Scherzo?

Borodin does this in a few of his Scherzos. The scherzo from his second string quartet is in sonata form and I’m pretty sure his scherzo in A flat is as well. There is no repeat of the exposition though, they keep the ABA structure but substitute the trio for a development section.
