Hey, I've been trying to orchestrate some melodies, but I'm struggling with the choice of instruments as well as how they should be used to compliment the main melody and not be overwhelming. There's 4 small melodies in the MP3/MIDI separated by a few seconds of silence. All of the main melodies are for a solo violin, and so far I've tried orchestrating the second one with a Cello and Violin Section, but It's kind of grinding my ears, although it could be because of how many times I've listened to it over and over. 4 ideas.mid 4 ideas.mid

Seems that, unsurprisingly, orchestral arrangements can make a not so great piano piece a lot better On an unrelated note, ever thought of having some group activities here? Strengthen this community. Something like, you give the beginning of a melody then others have to build on top of it and continue it, or writing variations for a given theme, I think it could be fun and useful as an exercise to composing

I arranged one of my short piano ideas into a short (I do not know where to take it past the 1 minute mark) orchestral piece The MIDI I uploaded is a little messed up since I used an FL studio sound pack so in some places it shows notes where there's actually drums orchestra.mid orchestra.mid

I also find 0 overbearing on my ears after giving it some time off I will certainly extend the ones I like eventually, I have yet to figure out how to develop I think piano is versatille and relatively easy to pick up, and I actually own one, hence why my ideas are for piano only, but I would definitely try others in the future

I'm posting all my themes/melodies so far and looking for opinions on which you prefer and why, or changes you'd make (Ideally not very technical as I have 0 knowledge of music theory, despite having stumbled my way onto this forum). They are short, but for some reason FL Studio made some of them longer than the actual melody (And lower quality) Also, I can count the number of classical pieces I know off the top of my head, so if any of these sound like something already existing that'd be good to know As a final note, I've no idea how to read or write sheet so ignore the Music Jotter score, I have no idea what I put there
