  1. I think I'm going to participate! Would a sax quartet tounge-in-cheek version of Sleigh Ride be acceptable? Thank you!
  2. Hey guys! I am about to get started composing a piece for a concert band/wind symphony based around the character(s) of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This will be my second piece for this type of ensemble and am wondering if I could get any advice regarding orchestration. I will accept general advice, but if anyone would have tips to make this playable for a tiny ensemble (3 flutes, 1 clarinet, 3 alto saxophones, a tenor saxophone, a baritone saxophone, 4 trumpets, an euphonium, 2 trombones, and a handful of percussionists), that would be amazing! Thank you!
  3. Thanks for the feedback! This in particular is helpful to me because I am not really a piano/drum player (I can improvise and mess around on them, but when it comes to sheet music, espeically in the jazz scene, I am useless). I will attempt to play around with the piano more and maybe have a specific section feautring the piano. As for the drums, there is a "solo" section right before the d.s. that I intended for the drums to go nuts through, I just don't have the notation expertise for that. Thank you for your valuable input!
  4. Hey there! The playback is a bit funky and I'm not sure how to fix it on Musescore, but I'm not too concerned because I'm hoping for a live performance/recording. My musescore file was fine with the score, so i wonder why it did that on the pdf. As for the shout chorus I did notate it. It's on page 8 of the score! Thank you for the response!
  5. Thanks for the feedback! I wasn't sure if it would belong there because I was more focused on writing for a band than a choir.
  6. Hello! Recently I have talked with my high school's band director about composing an alma mater for our school because we've never had one. I was inspired both lyrically and musically by traditional church hymns (my school is a Christian school). Attached is a first draft of a potential piece and I would love to recieve feedback from y'all about it! I didn't write any percussion yet becuase I'm currently unsure of what I want them doing (they might remain tacit.) Thank you!
  7. Hey there! This is the first complete work I'm posting on this forum. I was inspired by jazz big bands, and especially the tune "Night Train" composed by Jimmy Forest. Smack That Thang (Big Band Arrangement)-Score_and_Parts.pdfThis isn't the final rendition, but for now I am satisfied with it. I would love any feedback that anyone can provide. Thanks!
  8. I actually just realized that Musescore doesn't automatically number the score! Could you provide a page number at least? Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the response! I am just using Musescore's basic library and I am glad to hear that it sounds good. I am a bit confused on what measure you are referring to, could you give me a measure number? I will definitely post the finished product once it's ready. Thank you!
  10. Thank you for the warm welcome and a response! I am currently playing in a jazz band and have taken inspiration from a few pieces already. I am just nervous that I'm going to take too much inspiration and end up accidentally stealing someone else's work. I'll definitely post any updates I have! Thanks!
  11. Hey there! I've been working on composing this tune for a jazz big band. It is a 12 bar blues and I am almost finished with it, I am just struggling with writing a 12 or 24 bar shout chorus followed by an 8 bar drum solo (this is the section in the score that has nothing in it.) If anyone would give me some ideas that would be greatly appreciated! Also this is my first big band composition so any positive feedback is very much appreciated!
  12. Hey there! I've been working on composing this tune for a jazz big band. It is a 12 bar blues and I am almost finished with it, I am just struggling with writing a 12 or 24 bar shout chorus followed by an 8 bar drum solo (this is the section in the score that has nothing in it.) This is my first composition in this style and am afraid that I'm not executing what I want to express very well. Could my score be analyzed and recieve some personal or general tips? Thanks!Smack That Thang Shout and Drum WIP .PDF
