  1. I like it. Sounds like good music for a movie or video game. Curiosity: what music software do you use? Sounds like it could rival Finale, timbre-wise.
  2. ROTFLOL! *Joins the Mahler/anti-Mozart front* Anyway, for me it's almost every composer before Beethoven; too square for me...except I guess for a couple of things by Bach & Handel. And Nelhybel's "Symphonic Movement," but not just because I had to play it once. I'm more of a Mahler - Stravinsky - John Adams type. Oh, and... *Launches 7/8 time shells at Mozart people*
  3. So these are all the pieces I know about that use an odd time signature or frequently changing time signatures, and lots of major key tonality: 'Slava!' by Bernstein 'Rachenitsa' from 'Thracian Dances' by Petko Stainov 'Sonoran Desert Holiday' by Ron Nelson 'Finale' from 'The Firebird' by Stravinsky 'Wind River' by Joseph Curiale 'Riding on the Wind' by Guo Wenjing There are so many more odd-metered pieces that are minor-keyed or dissonant (like 'Vesuvius' and 'The Rite of Spring'). Would anyone else out there know more major-keyed?
  4. I love it! Especially the mallet stuff you got going on. I also like the extensive exploration of 6/4 rhythms. But yeah, I play horn, and if it was me, i wouldn't make them play any higher than a G or Ab above the staff (concert C and Db). Just consider that and whatever else people have said and it'll be perfect.
  5. Since everyone is putting more than one favorite, I guess I'll post again... Guo Wenjing - Riding on the Wind Joseph Curiale - anything he's ever written. Karl Jenkins - Adiemus I - IV, The Armed Man Jerry Goldsmith - score to The Mummy, and especially The Ghost and the Darkness Stravinsky - Firebird & Rite of Spring (obvious...) John Adams - Chairman Dances, Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Harmonium, Meister Eckhardt, Christian Zeal and Activity Ticheli - Sun Dance, Vesuvius, Postcard, and anything similar he will write in the future. Steve Reich - Eight Lines, Music for 18 Musicians; still checking out his work.
  6. Oh, man, I had to play PDQ with my high school band during our final concerta few years back...painful. >_< I suppose the pieces by Adiemus would be mine...
  7. There's also different ways to pattern a time signature: the higher the "numerator" the more possible patterns. The main melody to Ticheli's Vesuvius is in 9/8, patterned 12 123 12 12. You might be even more interested in Guo Wenjing's , which includes 5/8 (both 12 123 and 123 12) and 7/8 (123 12 12 and 12 123 12).You can find an analysis of odd meter patterns at: Dictionary of Exotic Rhythms Enjoy!
  8. I already have an idea of how my "carefree" and "adventurous" pieces would sound, but would you mind telling me what you mean by "epic," perhaps giving some kind of similarity? Thanks!
  9. wow I just discovered Steve Reich's work on youtube, specifically this piece. It's really cool but I think "Eight Lines" is even better.
  10. I discovered this months ago, and have no idea why I haven't suggested it here yet. This is one of the most spectacular orchestral works I've ever heard. Part 1: Part 2: Enjoy
  11. I think there's already a "variations on scarborough fair" for band...I played it in spring of my freshman year in 2005.
  12. I'll bet you can already tell from my username what I think of this piece. :stoicjedi: The ending doesn't seem tacked on to me, but I couldn't tell why you didn't just keep it in 4 for the last measure... Also: This would be SO much fun to play with my high school band. Post a live recording asap!
  13. Truly remarkable. Yeah, it does sound a bit like something from a game...or maybe even a movie. I can't come close to thinking of whose music it sounds like...I guess that's a good thing for you. :-)
  14. I've had another moderator tell me that I can upload arranged work as long as I credit the original composer...but I just might drop this since it's pretty much exploded now.... ...And give me a break...I'm in high school!
