I use Reason for my composition, which works... permissably, and i write metal... but i use it because i got it for free off someone who was upgrading to Reason 4. EDIT: Went and listened to MoR.... wow.... i really wish i had $500 on me at the moment...

Hey guys, I was digging through my old composition midis looking for something fun to mess around with in Reason, and i came across a piece i composed about two years ago. The piece was called Ash Friday, and was a dedication piece to a girl called Ashley Harris, who was a friend of all the members of my band, who passed away in a drive by collision. I wrote a musical section in memory of her, and my bassist wrote lyrics for it, but we never got around to really playing (we were only 15/16 at the time). Anyway, whilst digging through my midis i came across that track on so i decided to work the song and see what i could do with it. After relistening to it a few times, i decided to change it around into a couple of genres which are the three version in the below link. I was hoping you guys would give some of it a listen, even if it is just the midi, and tell me what you think. None of them are by any means finished, but seeing i only composed (sorta) them in the last 2 hours, they will get polished up further in the future (especially the metal version). Furthermore, any other genres i could try and do, just let me know. All thats left to say is I'll try and find a copy of the lyrics for you to all read, and R.I.P Ashley... I write jsut about anything, but mostly metal... love the sounds of heavy music :D most of my longer dedicated concepts are metal... as to what type, that changes all the time, and i do just about everything except black metal.

Thanks :D The problem is often execution... i had another concept album going called Tokyo 2040, but i never finished it off to my satisfaction, so its still sitting in the tube... and i hope that doesnt happen to this one.

sounds like it should be named something like Contentment or something similar. I really like it... would love the score too!

Hey guys, long time no post. Thought i'd drop by to put up some off my current, non-"concept album" works. This one is a meshuggah-esque (obviously not as good as them) type song, my first really forey into polyrhythmic writing. Yes, its me singing, and i'll soon post a version which doesn't involve my voice... because i really don't like the sound of me. Hope you enjoy, and would love any and all feedback. Have you seen the movie Gabriel? The sorta-recent one??? Not that great a movie, but the closing image of the movie is this guy falling backwards over a 10 story building, just hanging in freefall. Basically with 10 Storey Drop, the opening track is a 10/8 slow guitary riff, called Before The Fall, where Adam, the main character (somehow, when i name a character like that, i just know it will evolve into somekind of 20 singer rock opera... :S) is looking at his life and weighing the pros and cons of ending it all. At the end of the track he takes the plunge, and we start on the 10 Stories/Storeys that make up his "fall from grace". As he falls, he sees into the window of 10 of the apartements in the building, the first one being his own messed up, squalor of an apartement which convinces him that jumping is the right move, as well as the next apartement, in which he sees a drug dealer abusing his girlfriend, who adam only knew by face value... anyway the album goes on with a bunch of other stories which basically sort out adams life, but it all gets a bit hazy here as i haven't finished writing all the music/lyrics or the big ending of the album yet, but thats sorta the general idea of it all :D

I'm working on two things... 1) just finishing of a Technical Metal/Melodic Death metal demo using Reason as my starting point, basically lots of polyrhythmic overlays on a stock 4/4 time signature. 2) just starting work on what will (hopefully) turn into a concept album, entitled 10 Storey Drop.

yeh, its not a completed song, because we all know prog rock/metal goes at for at least 7 minutes a song ;), this is just the first rough draft, but i will probably take your suggestions on board. Thanks for the comment

Just a short Progressive Rock/ Metal thing sorta like a Dream Theatre song, except infinintely not as good. Techniques include silly key signatures and cliche metal riffing. 7-4.MID

I know i'm a bit late to sign up seeing it's full, but i was wondering, when you say Duet, does that include DUEL!!!!!!! ie Banjo Versus Guitar.... like the good old times... ???

So, after the fact that i didnt get yelled off the forums the first time i posted, i thought i'd go through my computer for something else to post. As i did this i realized i have about 279 midis that i have written, even if they are fragments... i really need to get a girlfriend or something...:thumbsup: neway, this is the one that grabbed my attention. I wrote this song about a year ago. It was written to be in the style of slayer, but somehow, i think it turned closer to nu-metal, or emocore or something. anyway, the song uses lots of open notes, i cant remember what scales i based the solos off, and because i wrote it when i was still learning, yes it can get very repetitious. P.S. Ignore the name of the file, i never give files an actual name until the lyrics are done, so at the time, this was my newest song. Track 12 - NEWEST.MID

Funnily enough, the bassist in my band, his phone and ipod are loaded with my music, and so i'll be sitting there, and suddenly one of the songs will start playing as his phone rings, and it's different every time... Thanks alot mate. There is more if you want it?
