  1. Hi all. If someone that knows chords well can help me out quick I will be very thankful. This piece is a dedicatory overture and it should mostly be major or tonic chords, it is for full band. I am having trouble with adding chord to my trumpet melody. Thank you! Overture.mid Overture.pdf Overture.sib
  2. Hi all. I've started a new symphony and I am asking any of you out there how I can complete the chords in the first six or so bars, and make it sound more complete and/or orchestral. Thanks guys. James Symphony No 4.pdf Symphony No 4.mid
  3. Thanks. I'm composing this song for a performance at my high school, actually. Do you play an instrument? Just asking. I don't think I will put extreme dynamics (anything below p, anything above ff) in my piece mostly because it is not realistic for the performers I have available to me; (they are not college graduates who can play at pianissimo and still have a good tone, basically is what I'm saying). Could you share with me how I can "contrast" the theme? Once again, Thanks.
  4. Wait, but you have Sibelius 5, no?
  5. Hey guys, I'm working on a new waltz theme again, I was wondering if any of you critics could offer some critiques and opinions regarding the melody, the orchestration, etc; also, what I could do to make it more interesting. Much thanks, James. :) P.S. I wish to make this piece much longer with another melody as well. Orchestral Work on Waltzes.sib Orchestral Work on Waltzes.mid Orchestral Work on Waltzes.pdf
  6. Thanks, jcharney!!! Is there any way to set this trill to half step 2 as the default way to interpret trills? Thanks again. It sounds much better.
  7. Thanks. Yeah that's a big problem for me, I'm afraid that it's too simple and I'm only using 1 to 2 chords which I guess leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not sure of the chord progressions of other waltzes but the only progression I know is (I, IV, V7, I). Also, the midi/Sibelius misplays the trills on the flute, oboe, bell/xylo triplet-trill sequence. It is playing it as C/C# instead of C/D. Anyway of fixing this? Thanks.
  8. Hi everyone I have just started a waltz for our young composer's competition at our high school, it is far away from now (like in May), but I'd like to get a head start. I am a senior and I've played oboe for 9 years now, percussion for 5 years and just started tenor sax in our jazz band. I wanted to know if you guys could help me with this song. Thanks. 9. Hi all again, I am writing a piano piece this summer and I am having some slight writer's block. I am not a pianist, but I have been playing oboe for 8 years now. This piece is called "Infernal Pyroclasm", it depicts (I guess) the life of a town that has settled on the foot of a volcano; it is a hot, steamy and slow day. I'm trying to depict life, death & destruction and then rebirth of life in the three different motions or (tempos) of the town. In the music, they are: 1) Tense 2a) Slowly but Steady 2b) Clash and 3) Lento. I know that being 3 minutes long, it is very short for a message like that to get across to a person, but it is unfinished work and I am open to any comments, suggestions, criticisms and thoughts. Thank you, your thoughts are appreciated. :) James Infernal Pyroclasm.mid Infernal Pyroclasm1.sib
  10. Hi. I need to turn in a music theory composition that is 36 bars long, and I only started with a few bars and I'm stuck! Any suggestions? Thank you! Just for some background info- I'm a junior in high school. I've been an oboist for 8 years and percussionist for 4 years and now I've started bassoon. 11. Yes, thank you very much!!! Your sample mp3 was amazing when I heard it. What program do you use? My initial tempo was intended to be slow, it was supposed to be an inspirational song, but now I think a faster tempo better suits it, not nearly as fast as your sample though. Yes I think starting out with less instruments and building to more is an effect I wasn't utilizing. Do you have any suggestions of scores that I could look at?
