  1. Hello all, I'm working on music for a Visual Novel a group of us are working on. This is hopefully one of the tracks we may use, so I'll be looking for feedback and such. Mostly feedback on the production as I'm still new to the whole LP/HP filter and Multiband Compression thing. YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement Thanks in advance!
  2. I first wrote the composition in Finale. Then, I exported the MIDI file to FL Studio where I spent about 5-8 hours switching in and out different recordings of note attacks and such using one of my virtual instrument library East West Quantum Leaps Symphonic Orchestra Gold Edition. As to the playableness of the piece, yeah, I know the likelihood of someone being able to play it as well as I would hope is pretty slim. I'm a trumpeter myself. The 6/8 thing... I was thinking to conduct only the first beat of each measure and to conduct it in two. I mainly chose 6/8 because of the triplet feel to it. Also, I think my Timpani part may not be playable because it may require too many tuned notes.
  3. It's been a while since I've been to this forum. I've studied up a little and have become a little more creative in my compositional skills. This piece was something I started to write back in 2007. Then, I only wrote down most of the trumpet melody but could not figure out a good accompaniment. Later this year, I came back to it with an interesting take on it. This piece will surely test the skills of the trumpeter that performs it. The melody skips around and sometimes makes use of an arpeggio that will push the trumpeter towards it's up register (Bb Trumpet Eb5). Comments are welcome! 4. I was playing around with some church hymns for a couple evenings and this is what I came up with. Tell me the names of all three hymns and win the uber cookie. :o Three Hymns.MUS Three Hymns.MID
  5. I see. Well, this is the melody I was trying to write the counterpoint against (see attached file). I noticed in yours and in others the use of accidentals. How do you know when to use them? Are there any rules to this or is it just something you have to hear? Melody.MUS melody.MID
  6. As the title states, I'm having trouble writing any sort of counterpoint to my Cantus Firmus. This is in two parts but I plan on adding more voices in order to make a fugue section in my latest attempt at an orchestrated piece. I've read the "Gradus Ad Parnassum" by Johann Fux so I have an understanding how it works, but could someone show me with my Cantus Firmus as an example? Thank you very much! The progression I have chosen, in order, is: Emin - Amin - Emin - F#dim - D - D - G - Amin - Emin - Amin - G - D - G Two Part - Counterpoint.MUS Two Part - Counterpoint.MID
  7. I see. Thank you very much for your comments! @RM Clarinetist: I can agree, at some parts it may not make sense. Idea were running low at the time and I was excited to finish the piece. I disagree with your comment on playability though. All notes are in range for a professional trumpet player and none of the rhythms are to complicated to play. If you could elaborate more on why you think it is not playable it would be appreciated. Thank you for your comment! @Euler: I like the changes. Those parts were the last sections I had to complete the composition because I couldn't think of anything to fit in there but I like what you did there. Thank You!
  8. Hello, this is my first time here at Young Composers and I hope to make a good impression on everyone while I get used to the ways of this message board. I have been composing and arrangeing music for a little over a year now. I have had no formal instruction on composition; all of what I know is what I have either figured out or have read in the past. I hope to learn much from people's comments. Anyway, on with my composition... This is what I consider my first "True" composition. I have experimented with things in the past that didn't turn out so well, but I consider this my first "success." I'm not sure whether I can call it a sonata or not because I am not to familiar with what qualifies as a sonata. This is arranged for piano with solo trumpet. I picked trumpet because that is the instrument that I play and I just want to write something for it I guess. It is Baroque inspired but I'm not sure that it is a 100% baroque piece. One thing that I do regret is that my sound samples are not the greatest, so the trumpet doesn't sound like the trumpet I had in my head, but that aside I hope to get a lot of constructive criticism. Thank you for your time! Sonata for Trumpet.pdf Sonata for Trumpet.MID Sonata for Trumpet.MUS
