  1. Haha, except our Chrsitmas (Down here in aus, see?) was yesterday.
  2. DEFINATELY! I like video games, and this sounds like a great idea!
  3. WHy have you posted the same thing twice?
  4. Use one or more microphones, then burn it onto a cd.
  5. I don't know how relevant this is, but somehwere i (it might even have been on this website) read an interesting article about why our music is the way it is. It said something about how music reflects our environment. So music is representative of the sounds and sights of what is around us. A timpani roll, for example, might be representative of thunder. The author also wrote that if animals had (or have) music, it would be totally different for this reason. This also explains the large differences in music from different cultures. Big cities, with their large skyscrapes and huge amounts of traffic and noise, would have music that contrasts with that of, say, a tribe in the middle of Africa.
  6. Okay....but I don't know how useful this is going to be.. because you might have been trying to create it like this... but: The bass is the thing I noticed the most. Sometimes it seems like it is not hitting the right note... maybe keep it on the tonic of the chord not the third or the fifth. However, i liked the bagpipe effect - how it sounded echoing.
  7. What are antique cymbals? I have NEVER heard of them before (or maybe under a different name i might have) I saw them when I opened up a sibelius orchestra template. What are they? Are they pitched?
  8. Thanks so much for that great feedback! The other two, aren't totally finished, yes, they are mainly ideas, but I thought I'd put it up just as a way of seeing firstly, if they're good, and secondly, if I might have missed something, or something sounds wrong. I play clarinet and piano. A lot of my songs start out by me playing around with some chords, then melodies on my piano, and I have made two pieces for it. However, I wouldn't consider them very good. I have also started to write some pieces for the clarinet with piano accompaniment. Seeing as it is VERY unlikely any performers will play my stuff anytime soon, I think its much better for me to write for my own instrument, so I can actually play my own pieces, and they are not playing back mechanically on a computer. Also to see how they sound in real life. But I haven't really wrote much for my instruments yet. What "string and brass" arrangements do you suggest specifically... Is there somehwere I might be able to download some, or are there any CDs you suggest?
  9. I typed in google: "young composers" lol... then i saw, in the title... "Young Composers"... i figured that pretty much was what i was looking for :whistling:
  10. It comes up just as string ensemble... is it possible to put the different instruments on different channels or something so we can see the score? I find it hard to give feedback without the score. From jusrt listening to it though, up till now it sounds quite nice. It has a really good melody. Sometimes the harmony is a little out IMO.. for example, 10 seconds into the piece and at 53 seconds... i don't know if that was intentional or not, but IMO it sounds a bit out. Also, very early on, the notes sometimes sound very short and cut off.. but that is probably just the midi. The ending... it had two endings! :whistling: The pizzicato chords at the end sounded very out of place, because you havent used pizzicato anywhere else in this piece. One other thing, a lot of it sounds repeated, mainly the first theme. Anyway don't pay too much attention, I'm not too qualified to be making that kind of criticism. But hopefully you can provied the score? Other than that I think its a very nice piece, with some very beautiful parts (especially 1.16 where you put in some major chords for a bit) and I enjoyed listening to it.
  11. Hello. HEre are three of my compositions. I am 14, so I would like some feedback so I can improve. I have had hardly any feedback on my other two submissions, so I hope putting three into one post will help. Trumpet and Rhythm is a piece i started composing at school, and then finished at home. This took me at least a month and a half to two months to complete on and off, and I'm most proud of it. A group of guys at my school and I were practising it, but then for some reason, we stopped :whistling: It consists of trumpet as the melody (this could be replaced as a singer if there were lyrics), acoustic guitar, Piano, and drum kit. I orginally wrote the chord symbols in for the guitar, but, so people can listen to it basically how its supposed to be played, i used sibelius's "Realise chord symbols" plug-in to notate the chords for guitar. This also saves people from muting the guitar when it switches form melody to chords, as i had notated the rhythm of the chords on a B. Coconut took me about 2 days to make. The name speaks for itself.. it has vibraphone, shamisen, keyboard, bass guitar, antique cymabls, bongo, conga and drum kit. Horizon i made yesterday, and it was just something quick i threw together in an hour. Clarinet, violin, acoustic guitar, piano and drum kit. Hope you like them... 12. Thanks for that... I like romantic music :) What exactly do you mean by chromatic harmony? Like accidentals? Thanks for replying, but where exactly do you mean? I agree some parts are bad harmony, but in order to imporve my piece and compositional skills, I need to know where specifically, like a bar number or what time it happened
  13. Hello! I'm 14, and this is my first attempt at writing for an orchestra. The piece is about a person dreaming at night...as you might have guessed with the name. He has 4 different dreams, all about different things. It isn't totally finished yet, but this is mainly it. i thought I would submit it up here before i start refining it so I could get some advice, and ideas on how to make it better. About 20 seconds into the piece, where the clarinets first play, they shouldn't, so (if you can) mute them, unmute them when that section repeats. In the second dream, when the clarinets repeat the theme of the first dream while the other instruments are still "playing the second dream". This is kind of meant to show his restlessness with all the images all twisted up... if you know what I mean :P . Its so hard to express what i mean here... Well here are the files Oh yeah, and at the end, the big ending is the ending of the dream, and the piccolo is the guy waking up. The piece has taken me about 3wks to a month so far Freehold_Fight.MID Song_Starter__26_Darkness.mid Dreams.sib Dreams.mid
  14. That really sounds like video game music to me. Hmm, I don't really know what to say to help you imporve, as it is in the experimetnal section.
  15. Okay thanks for that advice. What is eMule? Is it a program or something? If so, where can i download it?
