  1. Hello everyone, A while ago I wrote a melody and harmony but since then I haven't been sure what to do with it. Right now its been written for piano. However, I don't really see it as a piano piece but at the same time I don't know what kind of instrumentation would go well with it. I've attached a midi and soon ill put up the score. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or tips. slow.mid
  2. Awesome, it sounds very good. What were the percussion instruments that you recorded?
  3. I agree, I like listening to this one and I think it will sound positively awesome in a game. What are the percussion instruments that you are using?
  4. I don't have any new criticism to add but I really think the material here is great
  5. Many thanks for the feedback, I've attached the score to this post. As of now there are some notation issues that I haven't got around to fixing and there are no key signatures or pedal diagrams. I'll have to test out the pizzicato passages on my violin and make it easier where necessary. I'll also ask the harpist at my school to take a look at the parts to see if the pedal work is too much. I think you're definitely right about the string parts being boring, in a later section I think I will put the strings more in the foreground. As a further question (to anyone reading): Generally when I get stuck I do something relating to a theme of the piece to keep going, however with this piece I haven't really developed one. My question then, is how do you keep going when you're stuck with a piece that doesn't have thematic material? Thanks untitled4.pdf
  6. Hello all, I am a relatively inexperienced composer as I haven't composed too many pieces, but I thought I would post something I'm working on because I have been stuck on it for a while. I'm also interested in any other critiques you may have. Thanks and enjoy! untitled4.mid untitled4.sib
  7. Sorry to go on a tangent, but this thread doesn't seem like it's going anywhere anyways. Before i joined the forum I saw his posts and they seemed to be quite well informed. I don't understand - why does it say he was banned? If this is an inappropriate question or an inappropriate place to ask it, apologies in advance.
  8. I'm admittedly not very knowledgeable about piano trios, but I like Beethoven's Ghost Trio a lot.
  9. What are some of your favorite video game and film scores? I love listening to them so I was wondering which ones are the best listening. Thanks in advance
  10. I liked this, it sounds very primal (in a good way) to me. I think it would be cool for a post-apocalyptic video game/movie. Maybe I'm just saying that because Im watch The Terminator right now
  11. Very cool. What is that noise that comes before the strings entrance? Its a sort of slashing percussive sound - or is that the reverse cymbal you were talking about?
  12. I like it, it's interesting (How did you get the instruments to change channels?). I could see it in either a humorous or a sort of twisted humor/demented sort of situation.
  13. Hello all, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. My question is: When did you (whoever is reading this) start composing for orchestra, if you have started doing so? In other words, what was it that made you feel like you knew enough about orchestration? I ask because I really want to compose for orchestra - the prospect of so many tools at my disposal excites me - but my knowledge of orchestration is pretty low. Im okay with not composing for orchestra right now, but I'd like to have an idea of how much I should know before jumping into it headfirst. Thanks and happy composing
