Thanks for the tips! Unfortunately I do not have the FL file for this, it was lost some years ago. I only have the audio file now, but I really appreciate your comments, they are helpful to me, thank you!
  2. It was actually a $40 microphone I bought at RadioShack haha! I had to tweak the sound quite a bit to get the noise out of the recording. All was done in FL Studio. Oh and @BDW-Musician, thanks for the recommendation, I loved them! Absolutely fantastic! Yes I've completely neglected panning in almost all of my compositions, as a couple of people have mentioned. Thank you! I am now aware of that and I have been keeping that in mind when I write now, and it sounds so much better. It makes sense, of course, I just never thought about panning while writing haha. Thanks guys!
  3. I absolutely love the beginning, it is gorgeous and peaceful. I could hear this as music in a town of a video game. Very, very enjoyable! I love the integration of the acoustic guitar into your orchestration, it never tires the ear, and it glues together the rest of the orchestration. I love the rhythmic use of the clarinet and .. violin or viola, I can't tell. Excellent!! It is interesting to find that the higher voices are holding notes, like a pad, while the clarinet caries the melody. I also love how you slowly add more instruments as the piece progresses. The polyphony is much appreciated.Excellent job!
  4. I love the wholetone influence in the beginning. Good instrumentation. I can hear everything clearly and with great articulation. I particularly enjoy the contrast in texture. It is a very important element, after all. Great job! You should consider lengthening this piece, it was very enjoyable.
  5. I'm not sure if it is just me, but when I clicked play it said "File Not Found" .. ?
  6. I agree with the comment of it having a similarity to The Dark Knight. No worries, though. There is nothing wrong with using ideas from another composer as long as you do not rip them off. This is how we discover, learn, and grow (most important) Rock and drama do not usually mix well. You have combined this rock-like feel with a rather dramatic and tragic pad in the strings. It works well. Good job
  7. For having composed for only 8 months, you have done very, very well. Everything sounds wonderful, though the intro is very quiet. It could just be because I am in the middle of Starbucks with a so-so pair of headphones Good job, and keep it up! I can't wait to hear more.
  8. I am highly impressed with your orchestration. Excellent job! You write well for woodwinds, flutes in particular. I will just for myself when I say this, but I think the woodwinds are the most underscored section in most compositions I hear; especially the clarinet. You have done an excellent job here. I cannot find much to criticize. I particularly like your use of contrast, both in style and instrumentation. Orchestration and contrast are two very important elements to me. Also, good work with the sound libraries.
  9. Other than the excellent cultural instrumentation you employed, I must say I am most impressed with your articulation. You make it very clear to hear the drum taps, tinks, clanks, etc. My only complaint is that it is too short and ends very abruptly. A lot of people are cutting their compositions short. There may or may not be a reason for this, but this is beautiful! We want more! Thank you for sharing this. Excellent work!
  10. Interesting sound, I like its tonal dissonant sound! Check your ranges, you score way to low for cello in some places. They cannot play below a C below the staff. You might consider adding a double bass to carry those low pitches and double the cello at the octave when it's not. Adding the double bass will also add a "bottom" to the piece that might help you achieve the texture I think you're after. Also, When composing in finale, make sure voice two (red notes) are on the bottom. That way you avoid stem crossings. Also, in measures 29-32 you might want to put a crescendo in the strings, because the flute is playing in a very high register, it will be piercingly loud, and will most likely obliterate sounds coming from the strings, and you can't very well tell a flutist to play something that high quietly. I'm not sure what this is scored for, but there is not much development, and it ends very abruptly. I'm not sure if this was your intention, but it's just an observation.
  11. The color is interesting, and the rhythms never tire. Good job, here! When the clarinets enter later in the piece, the pitches sound somewhat random, more like chance music. I'm not sure if this is what you were originally going for, but it's just an observation I made. It ends rather abruptly, you might consider extending the piece, or ending it with the root to give it more closure. Everything else sounds pretty good. I like the use of the cello and bassoon to carry the main ingredients of this piece. Nice work
  12. This thread is ridiculous. ANY combination of musical sounds in an organized manner (or sometimes unorganized) is composition. One must realize that pencil & paper, MIDI, etc. are METHODS used for composing. The art of composing in itself still stands.
  13. I didn't originally plan on it. It is possible, though! Thanks for your comments
  14. Awesome piece, Robin. =) I agree with everybody, but what I am most impressed by was your superb orchestration. Wonderful work my friend
  15. I am loving the introduction; it is confident, and dangerous. This reminds me of playing games like Siphon Filter or Metal Gear, lol, when sneaking around, trying to stay hidden. Excellent use of the harmonic minor scale. I like the piece, overall. It has a minimalistic style to it, which I think really adds to its personality. Great work!
