  1. This is f--ing awesome. Every use of effect seems so in place giving you that chilling feel. The only complaint I have is that the strings sound a little flat, maybe put some dynamics on them.
  2. Also, he's clearly not using EWQL. I use EWQL and I know what EWQL sounds like.
  3. I don't think you still understand. GPO is just sound. It needs some sort of midi manipulation tool such as Finale or Sonar to arrange all the sounds into a piece of music. You can't write music with GPO itself. GPO and Sonar needs one another to produce good music. Essentially, GPO is like font, and Sonar is like Microsoft Word. You can't use the font by itself, it doesn't make any sense. You'll need Microsoft Word (or a rich text program) to create good looking documents. Microsoft Word can create documents, but without any of the beautiful fonts, you'd probably only be able to use some butt ugly system fonts. I do use Sonar 6. It's not worth the purchase for music enthusiasts like us. We don't need a bunch of features like the big time composers out there. Sonar Home 4 is actually more than you'll ever need in the cakewalk line of products. This is beside the point. The point is, Sonar isn't a sample library. It's a sequencer.
  4. GPO is a sample library (plus the sampler). Sonar is a sequencer, it needs samples like GPO to make music. Sonar doesn't have samples by itself (it comes with some pretty low end sound samples).
  5. there used to be this state university link that post their own recorded instrumental samples. They have a whole slew of orchestral instruments with 3 layers each. i think it's university of Iowa. google it up. however, they're in flac format. you'll have to program them yourself into the correct samplers. but the samples are high quality.
  6. you can set your sonar to play your music at a lower frequency and bit depth. it'll sound pretty bad in terms of quality, but if you want to playback frequently then it's an option. should be in the audio options.
  7. so procrastinators like me can actually finish it?
  8. hello luima, i liked your work very much. it does portray a definition of courage. however, i felt it dragged on a bit too long. i usually like short cues. so that's why i think so. but for the first 2 minutes it was a long lush play, there were one too many instruments going on. i think if you panned your instruments a bit more to simulate the seating of the orchestra, it might sound less muggy. it's very good music, i like it. thanks for sharing. pete.
  9. thanks. i used vienna symphonic library and london orchestral percussion. yeah. i'm a big giga user. :P . as for the sequencer, i used cakewalk sonar.
  10. hello schroter, despite my lack of interest in your other work. this one was surprisingly great. this one had a lot more music flow in it. and it does have a bit of smooth jazz in it. great work. though one thing i think could've improved the music was to change some rhythm. there are 8th notes everywhere. you should have some sort of rests somewhere. after all this is jazz.
  11. honestly, i just couldn't find myself to finish listening to this piece. maybe this defines as a new direction for you, but i couldn't hear the music in this. it was four players playing their own music regardless of the other players. no harmony, no structure, no melody, practically no sound. also, i honestly can't say you even tried to put effort in this. sorry.
  12. recorri. I downloaded the mp3 and noticed the id tags. 三國演義! this song was a track for a cartoon?!?
  13. thanks guys. leightwing, you're right with the trumpets. i mucked around with that trumpet forever to make it sound at least like vibrato but i gave up after about 30 minutes. Nico, yeah, i think know what you mean. the whole piece was pretty random. personally, if i could throw away any parts of the music, it would probably be everything except for that string passage in about 1:00 not including the trumpets. thanks again.
  14. howdy othello, okay. so here goes. the intro was great. only thing i didn't think fit was the timpani. the constant timpani in the intro made it sound like a cartoon of some sort. it can come in a bit later. that constant percussion, not exactly sure what kind of percussion that's supposed to be (sounded like snare tapping the edge?). it's good. but it dragged on a bit too long. it went on for approximately 48 seconds. in the beginning it was nice. but by around 30~40 seconds it just started to annoy me. now between 0050 and 0108, i can't exactly tell what's being played by the cello because of a lack of dynamics, but it sounded like it was a long sustained cello note. I don't think you can play a prolonged note for 18 seconds. again. maybe it's just the sampling connected what are seperated notes that i can't tell from this recording. 0110 on was great. though if you're ever going to do a recording for better quality. i'd suggest shortening the staccato strings even more. i think it can work better if you had it to something like that of bass notes in 0300. at 0336. some hit came in. i can't tell what that was. but it didn't sound too right. the repeat in the end sounded great. the cello here, i think, is probably the highlight of the piece. it sounded great. fitted the music well. not very fond of that choral but i think it worked alright too. generally, i liked the beginning and the end. the middle was just a little muggy. good effort. hope this helps. pete.
  15. and VSTi/DXi/Gigastudio Rewire support would be great. it seemed to have isolated itself by not doing so.
