  1. Thanks for the comments guys :) I had a feeling the triplets might not be hugly popular...i was torn between two ideas for that bar (they're both in the piece - the afformention bar, and bar 67), so that will probabily be addressed. As for the melody...i can see where you're coming from with the leaps, and as a rule i would tend to agree with you...however  I don't know, i think it's disjointedness is part of the melody's appeal...but that could just be me :) Thanks again, and anyone else, please let me know what you think Adam
  2. Hey, I've been working on this piece for a while on and off now - It's my first attempt at a large orchestral piece, but its had a very strange genisis. The first 28 bars where written in one afternoon, about a year and a half ago. I didn't do anything to the piece for over a year, then came back from Portugal this summer, and completed what is there in another afternoon  . I'm by no means entirly happy with the work - i like the first theme, the second sounds (in my mind) a little like somthing from Pirates of the Carribean, but the third theme, to me, doesn't quite...sit :) . However, i've exhausted my ideas for the moment...so i thought i'd submit it here, get a second opinion :) Please let me know what you think, good or bad Thanks Adam Adam_Symphonic_start.sib Adam_Symphonic_start.mid
  3. Hey, I'm new to this site, but not particularly to composing, which i've been doing fairly steadly for about 5 years. I'm a first year music student at Keele University, just outside Birmingham England. I don't compose as part of my course, and i don't pretend to really be very good...i just do it for pleasure... Anywho, this is one of my latest pieces...it started off as a little tune on piano, but it evolved into a string quartet, mainly because of greater harmonic possibilities...and what you see is pretty much the sum of two days work. I'm a bass trombonist, and don't pretend to know much about string playing, but i've been reliably informed that its quite playable. Anywho, if you could let me know what you think, the good, the bad and the ugly, it would be most appreciated! Thanks Adam String_Quartet_in_Gm.sib String_Quartet_in_Gm.mid
