  1. That fast alternating sound is a horn? wow
  2. Lesson 1 - GENERAL REVIEW - Strings & Woodwinds - northernsounds.com In the first video what is the instrument that plays right from the beginning and stops when the violins end its crescendo (the first 4 secs of the video)? Thx! :)
  3. I see... So basically you keep from breaking the beats to get it easier to perform right?
  4. Changing the tempo can fix the time used by the 16th notes but will mar its relationship with the neighboring notes. Unless i change the tempo for only those two notes, which is impractical. You spotted my problem. I cant think about music through its beats/pulses. I am just singing it aloud and trying to write it down. But then to make the desired length of the notes I see no other way than to dot them without even thinking about the beats.
  5. Thats my problem! How do you keep the score normal? Do you restrain yourself from using note lengths that will mar the beats? I just play the music and keep adding dots everywhere ehehehhehe Do you mean that if i adjust the tempo i could remove the dots from the 16ths? Sorry nikolas, I am just a beginner :)
  6. Omg i cant even start writing music. I only come up with crazy designs! Look at the above image. Is it performable? Could someone teach me how not to cross every measure with ties? When I try to put the notes with the exact length i want them to have I end up with totally unreadable music. I just hear the note and then go like "hmm i will add a dot to it, its too short".
  7. What do you mean by polyrythm? And can i beam notes across bars??? If this is the way music is written, than i will just beam the notes together as you suggested.
  8. In the above image i am trying to fit a pattern into a 4/4 staff. You can see its all broken between the measures and Finale doesn't connect the quarter note with the eight notes in some places. What should i do? Change time signature? Or is this correct? Thanks a lot!
  9. I am studying harmony with Walter Piston book. All its examples are 4 part. But how does it scale to orchestral scores? How many parts do orchestral compositions use? What are the min and max number of parts usually employed (simultaneously and not)? Another questions: - What are the most common instruments that can play 4-part music alone besides the piano? - Do common-period composers use the harmony theory explained by Piston among all the parts of an orchestra? Sorry for my ignorance. I've just started learning :D
  10. What's the dynamic expression for "now play normally"? hehehehe :)
  11. How do i know when to stop crescendo/decrescendo after finding this expression on a score?
  12. Thank you all for the tips! :) I am studying Harmony from Walter Piston. I got this book from the local library.
  13. OK, i have learnt basic music theory: notes, meters, scales, intervals, key signatures, chords (triads, seventh chords, ninth chords, eleventh chords), chord inversions, chord progressions. Now how should i proceed? What about harmony and counterpoint? And orchestration, what is it? Which should i learn first? One more question? :) How do i find out how a certain sound is made? I mean, how can i learn what sounds each instrument is capable of?
  14. I really want to learn music theory, could you suggest me some books? So you use Finale and Cubase. Isnt it possible to just compose the music on Finale and tell it to play using an external sampler as output? Why do people use programs like Cubase, Reason, Sonar, etc? I thought nowadays we could just write the music notation and it could be played with sample libraries.
  15. Hi all! My name is Diego, i am 17 and I LOVE video game music. I really really want to learn how to compose music. Could someone help me getting started? :) 1 - What should i learn first? Music Theory? If so, how much of it? 2 - Is it true that Jeremy Soule musics are assembled with sound libraries and are not actually recorded by an orchestra? If so, is it possible to make high quality music with only a computer? 3 - What program do you use? 4 - What sound libraries do you use? 5 - Is music composition only for talented people? How do I know if I am talented? Thanks a lot!
