  1. No, I meant humour like this: YouTube - PART ONE: Lucy Conducts the Symphony! and the likes of Victor Borge, etc...! :) I mean its not everyday you bust out laughing to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite!!
  2. Have to say that it's an interesting variation, though not quite what I had expected! You have some good ideas here, but it just seems to be the original Fur Elise with a few 'twiddly' bits. What I recommend you do, is strip away the original melody and focus on the chordal progression, and work your variations on that instead of just adding another layer to the original piece. Have you just started out composing?
  3. What's the difference between an orchestra and a bull? A bull has horns at the front and an a**hole at the back. Gone Chopin. Bach in a minuet!! :D What is the range of a trumpet? As far as you can kick it. The glissando is a technique adopted by string players to overcome difficult runs. My mission on earth is to bring comedy back to classical music :)
  4. Very interesting piece - gypsy stuff like this goes straight to my heart :D Kind sounds like early Bart
  5. Well it truly has been a long time since I've heard the War of Fantasia .... and wow, what a change! :P Well done on all your hard work - I see the strings have been dropped from the original version. But it sounds really cool. I hate writing for brass and wind mainly because I can't :) but you've pulled it off with style!
  6. I've played the cello now for a year and half (just about!) - I think it's the best of the string instruments as I've played and once had all four in my room at one time (talk about one-man quartet)!!! Does anyone know of any site that had cello sheet music to download - I don't want to be trawling through google searches for hours on end....:sadtears:
  7. I would have loved to have taken part but I only have Finale 2005 and my computer's gone down (damn hard disk...) Can't wait to hear the finished product though!!! ;)
  8. Well that's it folks! I've recieved e-mails from Chris Sivak, Nick, and Paul Brandt - I have a total of eight e-mails in my inbox. I will start downloading tonight and judging as well :) Results should be on the thread by this time next week (hopefully!) If you want me to review your piece in detail, kind of like a Major Works thing but much longer, just send me a message to gmail. Best of luck to everyone. At this moment, I have listened to or seen nothing and am completely unaware of the horrors that await me in my inbox !! Congratulations also to you eight for managing to compose the piece in such a short period. That shows real talent.
  9. So far I have recieved four entries, people have had confirmation e-mails sent. Just to make sure that everyone gets a chance, the competition will close at 12pm GMT on Saturday (leaves people west of USA with a chance to get in on their Friday!)
  10. Johann - that sounds alright. Can't wait to see it. I use CutePDF for changing files into adobe acrobat but sometimes it can be quite annoying cause it causes the pc to slow down or freeze if I have another printer on or doing something else. Yeah, only a few days left. Hang in there everyone!
  11. Finally I managed to get myself in front of a computer! Great to hear that everything is going well for everyone. As regards playability now, just write what you can and what you think is possible. Of course all the pieces will be judged on the orchestra's ability to play it, but if we can work around the harder sections, then that should give you some hope to leave these sections in if you understand what I mean! :(
  12. Hey everyone, If you could pass this around, that would be great. It appears that I'm going to be away from the computer and the internet (sob) for a few weeks as I'm going to all over the country! I may get a chance to check mail and all of that whilst I'm away but I would recommend that if you have any serious queries, e-mail me NOW before Friday and I'll see what I can do. I think most of the serious problems have been dealt with in the thread and I take it most of you are writing at the mo. Looking forward to seeing all the entries and good luck to everyone! :P
  13. Thanks for that J. Lee. Yeah, I understand about the tonal thing. I guess the midi is a bit crappy so that's why you're not hearing the full story. Thanks anyways for your comments! Really appreciated :P
  14. You never know, he could have had a cool hip-hop-rap group (in his time) doing the Ride of the Valkyries  'Brunhilde is the bad one but Wotan is the sad one, yeah, yeah (I'm crap at rap)
  15. Have to agree with you there. It's better than I had expected (I only expected around 4-6 entries ;))
